Posted - 15/09/2010 : 13:53:00 Hi everyone - My name is Tom and I am new to snake keeping. I have been looking around the site for a while now but thought I would say hi as today I picked up my new 3 month old Amel Corn. He/She is gorgeous!! I say he/she because they hadn't sexed 'him??' because they wanted 'her??' to get a bit bigger so in a few months i can take 'him??' back for sexing. This first week is going to be a killer what with having to wait a week to play.
Right - now down to business and the start of many, many questions to come In the shop I was told that the snakes are fed on a Thursday, which is tomorrow, however I know that He/She needs to settle for a week so, do I feed tomorrow or leave it until next week? The shop said it wil be fine to feed tomorrow but I just wanted a few more views.
I will get some piccies over soon, I am so proud and cant wait to show off
Thank you Tom |

personally i'd leave him/her to settle in, skipping a feed isn't a problem, then handle him/her after a week then try a feed and leave to digest for 48hrs before handling again
Hi Welcome to the forum and the world of snake ownership! I agree with gingerpony. That's what I did with my snakes when I first got them. Amels are gorgeous, such bright vibrant colours! Yes, you're right that week of no touching is a killer! So is the 48 hours after every feed but at least that's shorter... |

Posted - 15/09/2010 : 14:06:20 hey and welcome to be honest its up to you as to whether you feed him/her tomorrow, personally i would leave it for a week - snakes are opportunistic feeders so it wont be a problem missing one look forwards to pics! |
