Hello,

I've joined this forum as i thought it looked like a really great way of learning more about the best ways to look after my corn snake Lucy.

She's four years old, just over 4ft, and i love her lots. Lucy is the first and only snake i've owned, but if i could i would have 100's. I never realised they were so brilliant!

I've always grown up with 100's of anaimals (never less then 4 dogs, many cats, ferrets, fish, rats, hamsters, stick-insects) growing up on a farm helps, but never reptiles. So i'm really looking forward of hearing about different ways to care for them from the people who love them best :)

Thanks,

Amy

Hi Amy, it is really good that you have joined us! This is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support....so the perfect place to learn more about the best ways to look after Lucy. You also get lots of fun and friendship as a bonus .

I am not sure if you have experienced this, but unfortunately a lot of us have found that many pet shops cannot be trusted with what they are telling you . I know that I double check anything I am told on here. On this forum no question is regarded as a silly question....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! First place to look is in the top right hand corner of the screen where there is a search button....type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer. I know you can get swamped with different topics including what you are searching for, so it is a bit daunting but worth a look. If you cant find the answer you are looking for then dont hesitate to ask!

I am not sure if you do this with Lucy, but I keep my own 'Snake Diaries'....noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems, when you do full viv cleans. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and Silvesta poo !!

She sounds about the same age and size as my Silvesta, the anery. What morph is she and how long have you had her? (you will find we are a very nosey lot on here, we like to know everything !!)

Unwritten forum rule - pics as soon as possible! This link will help - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14

I think it is great to grow up surrounded by animals. I always had dogs and had to go without a dog for the first time in my life over Easter, when I had to have my last one, Woodstock, put down. I lasted 10 days and my OH said that in that time it was as though he had lost his wife as well! I now have Peanut, who is causing havoc! I cant imagine a house without a dog in it. But I am no-where near your league!! Would love to be though !

We all understand exactly what you mean about having 100s of snakes if you could - corn snakes are addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is ****, I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!"

I look forward to getting to know you, and Lucy, better .

xxx
