Hello, just a quick note to say hi to everyone, I have no snakes yet but slowly turning the OH to a yes for me to get my first Corn... I have a house full of pets with 2 dogs (Scooby and Bobby) 2 cats (Marley and Furball) Russian hamester (Earless) Gerbil (Stripey) and a Leopard Gecko (Prince.) We live in South Oxfordshire and hope to meet some wonderful new friends on here.

I am also on RFUK (55ebailey)

I will hopefully be going to Kempton next month so might meet some of you there.

Evan

I dont like crix either, luckily Prince only likes Locusts which are much easier to catch, I have them in a big rub and grab them with tongues. I have never had to touch any.

I would love a Gecko but I have never held one and thought of feeding it crickets *shivers* lol

Thanks for the welcome's all... i have been reading various care sheets for quite some time now and have already started setting up my viv (this maybe premature knowing my OH's ponchant for doing u-turns on decisions) I will get some pics of Price my Leo on soon, I am also a member of RFUK so have been asking questions there too but believe me I will probably still have lots that need answers.

I am happy to get addicted to snakes, lizards and would love to fill my house with them although I may have to evict the OH before that ever becomes a possibility. 1 Corn to come and 1 current Leo to start is ok for me I think and I will start nagging the OH to let me have more once the corn has made it into the house lol.

Hi Evan. You will hopefully find that this is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship . Well done for finding us and doing your research before you get the 'ok' from your OH....and I am sure you have your ways and means to persuade her that a corn is an amazing animal to have....you could probably even talk her round into thinking it is her idea !! I am not sure how much information you already know about corn snake keeping, so sorry if I am repeating information you already know....but it is better heard twice than not at all.

I am sure you have already browsed the TCS site and forum, and found that it provides great information. The best place to look is http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm, it has lots of information for new snake owners. Also read this topic on 'Your 1st Snake' http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4133. Another great thread giving you a step by step guide to how to set up for a hatchling and more info about it is this one - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9878

You will find that there is a large amount of conflicting information out there about corn keeping – on the internet, in books, etc. Even on here you will find that people have different opinions.....but at least you have a place to ask what you need to know and get the answers from experienced owners. Then you can decide what to do with what you are told.

I am not sure if you have discovered this with you leopard gecko, but unfortunately a lot of us have found that many pet shops cannot be trusted with what they are telling you . I know that I double check anything I am told on here. On this forum no question is regarded as a silly question....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! First place to look is in the top right hand corner of the screen where there is a search button....type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer. I know you can get swamped with different topics including what you are searching for, so it is a bit daunting but worth a look. If you cant find the answer you are looking for then dont hesitate to ask!

I know you dont have your snake yet but I think that the unwritten forum rule still applies with your other animal - pics as soon as possible! This link will help - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14

A warning - corn snakes are addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is ****, I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!" You are about to start down that corn path so be warned!!
