i currently own an amel stripe and an anery (just bought anery today) and am hoping to make snow stripes.

first time ever breeding so went simple for practice. in future my plans are to make fire striped corns. (bloodred stripe crossed with amel stripe) but thats in the future.

Will you be waiting until Ivy reaches the age of 3, is 3ft and 300g before attempting to breed from her? I do hope so....and it gives you a lot of time to prepare yourself and get even more excited !

i know for a fact the amel is het but not sure on the anery. hmmmm.

If the Amels parents were both Amel stripes then it won't have hets. Same with the Anery, if the Aneries parents were both Anery it won't have hets. I think they could have poss hets though passed down from the parents but you would need to know what they were to breed and see if they inherited them.

I think thats right anyway. Shame they're not Amel stripe het Anery and Anery het Amel + Stripe, you could have ended up with some snow stripe babies.

Am glad to hear that the anery is settling in to his faun. How old is he? How long have you had your amel and how old is she?

I bet you are really excited about your breeding plans. There is loads of info on here about it so you can be well prepared when the time comes - so put that search button to good use !

Edited to add - just been checking out your pics of Ivy and have realised she is 2yrs old. Do you know about the rule of 3? The female needs to be 3yrs old, 3ft long and over 300g to breed safely or it can be dangerous for her.

hi danny brown, the amel stripe is het amel both parents were amel stripes. and the same for the anery. i think this means they are both het what they need to be but can you confirm this for me. thanks.

kellog, long welcome and thanks for it, the anery at the min is in a faunarium separate from my amel, my plan was to fatten him up a bit first as he is much smaller than her. :D

Hi Luke, it is really good that you have joined us! This is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship . I know absolutely nothing about morphs and breeding so will stick with welcoming you ! Not knowing how long you have owned your amel or how much you know about keeping corns makes it difficult to be sure what to say, so apologies for if I am telling you stuff you already know - but better heard twice than not at all.

Do you know to leave your anery for a week to settle in? We always suggest you follow this one-week rule (it is more of a guide than a rule but worth adhering too!)....no handling or feeding for the first week to allow your snake to get over the stress of the move and for it to get used to the new smells and its new surroundings. This means just putting your hand in to change the water daily and straighten the substrate, so it can get used to your smell and not be threatened by you. You know that going for a week without food wont do your anery any harm....and that time is worth it for your snakes sake.

You have probably found that there is a large amount of conflicting information out there about corn keeping – on the internet, in books, etc. Even on here you will find that people have different opinions.....but at least you have a place to ask what you need to know and get the answers from experienced owners. Then you can decide what to do with what you are told.

Unfortunately a lot of us have found that many pet shops cannot be trusted with what they are telling you . I know that I double check anything I am told on here. On this forum no question is regarded as a silly question....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! First place to look is in the top right hand corner of the screen where there is a search button....type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer. I know you can get swamped with different topics including what you are searching for, so it is a bit daunting but worth a look. If you cant find the answer you are looking for then dont hesitate to ask!

I am not sure if you have thought of doing this, but I keep my own 'Snake Diaries'....noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems, when you do full viv cleans. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and Silvesta poo !!

Unwritten forum rule - pics as soon as possible! This link will help - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14

It certainly sounds as though you have big things planned and I cant wait to learn more about you and your snakes.

Hey welcome to the forum.

Do you know if the amel is het anery and anery het amel? otherwise you won't get snow stripes. Same with the fire stripes, unless your amel is het diffused and bloodred stripe het amel you wouldn't get fire stripes.
