I am so sorry to hear that Amy....have you had any guidance as to where you have gone wrong? It really *takes deep breath to avoid swearing* makes me cross when this happens....had it happen to a friend of mine, who having been told he was doing everything right and really well when he showed his tutors the work while he was doing it, had it thrown back and told it was all wrong when he handed it in ....he still cant understand where he went wrong and has an appointment to see the tutor this week.
If you are unsure then question them!

minimum enclosure size materials that will be used Chipboard, beech, mahogany.. anything but not pine or cedar. ventilation two plastic vents will suffice a 3ft viv. drainage not needed, regular spot cleaning removes soiled bits. tempreture that the animal requires and heating sourses thermostatically controlled heatmat covering 1.3rd of the viv space around 27-30*. cool end = 19-22* hygiene/ disinfectant regimes daily spot cleans removing damp susbstrate from a water spillage and waste products, once a month / 6 week complete strip disinfect all furnishing and wipe the vivarium down, and new substrate added health and saftey to animal keeper corn snakes can do little harm, if you dont wanna get bitten then avoid the snake if he hisses, S's up or rattles his tail, leaving the snake and getting him out 10 minutes earlier is fine, if your snake is 'tame' then he's unlucky to want to bite you again, snakes dont hold grudges and are easily accustomed to human contact. security vivarium lock on the doors! substrate/ bedding newspaper, kitchen roll, aspen, beech chippings, 'reptile carpet' Nothing with in pine or cedar in as its toxic fumes. Not orchid bark, that can increase the humidity too high and cause illness. furnishings two hides minium for the warm end, cool end, waterbowl is essential, some rocks and sticks to help your snake shed and exercise and a few plastic plants for cover and some privacy rountine maintence make sure the viv isn't rotting or breaking anywhere, change water daily/every other day, check for waste products.
Hope this helps and good luck with your assignment. |

Posted - 05/06/2010 : 15:55:36 minimum enclosure size - so the snake isn't too cramped or too freaked out by the size of the viv.
materials that will be used - wood, maliene faced as it's finish is water proof and it is easy to install lights, holes ect into wood as apposed to glass.
ventilation - Don't wnat snakey to suffcoate or it to have stale, humid air.
drainage - No viv's that I know have draingage. COren's don't need sraigage as they don't have high humidity requirments.
tempreture that the animal requires and heating sourses - to keep warm in order to move. too hot can dehydrate snake or burn it, too cold and digestion could be compremised.
hygiene/ disinfectant regimes - Depend son the substrate. Newspapre stuff will needto be cleane dout more. nce a month for as[pen and scoop poop as you see so beacteria doesnn't spread everywhere. Plus, snake's don't poop that much so on abosrbant material, it won't need to be cleaned out as much. If snakey is left in poop and soaking wet substrate then it could get RI, scale rot.
health and saftey to animal keeper - So you dont get samlonella sna snakey doesnt get ill from what ever your carrying on your hands.
security - Not nessary realy. No small snake should be in a wioodn viv. If there is children invilved then yes, security is needed as child could hurt snake.
substrate/ bedding - If it had no beeding than the rotting rocess of the wood could speed up plus, the surafce is slipprary and snakey wouldn't get a good grip.
nfurnishings - Not needed. Only water and 2 hides is needed. Everything else is for decoration that the snake may or maynot enjoy.
rountine maintence - so you and the snake don't gt ill |

Posted - 05/06/2010 : 15:38:56 Drainage is aimed at substrates that are moist, so when the enclosure is misted or water is put into tubes in the corners to to keep the substrate damp. The drainage is normlly a small hole in one of the floor corners to allow excess water to drain out into a sump.
But as RD said, not sure why you would have this in a corn enclosure. |

Posted - 05/06/2010 : 14:57:57 minimum enclosure size- so that the animal/snake is in an enclosure that it is happy in and feels comfetable, not to small that it can barely move around but not to big that it feels threatened.
materials that will be used-if wood is what you mean-is a natuiral source that a snake would come across in the wild
ventilation- to keep the air fresh and clean like it would be in the wild
drainage-i don't know what you mean by this?
tempreture that the animal requires and heating sources- so that the temperature can be the same as the wild so that it is happy and the heat source-heat mat- snakes get there heat from rocks that have heaten up in the wild so a haet mat produces heat on the ground/substrate
hygiene/ disinfectant regimes-to keep the enclosure clean and stop it becoming filled with unhygeinic bugs and viruses.
health and saftey to animal keeper-to stop them becoming hurt, being bitten and so on
security- don't know what you mean by this?
substrate/ bedding-so that the animal is not lay on a hard surface and has something confertable that he can lye on and can make burrows out of like they would in the wild
furnishings- so that the snake has the most naturalistic enclosure like the wild with fake plants and logs and hides like it would have in the wild.
rountine maintence-to keep the animal healthy and keep the enclosure clean
i hope this helps but sorry if it doesn't |
