When I was a kid, I was fearless. My parents were always getting on to me about picking up grass snakes, worms, beetles, tarantulas, snails, slugs, caterpillars- basically, any kind of 'creepy crawly' as my mom calls them...and yet, it only takes the tiniest of spiders to turn me into a shrieking, flailing, chair-standing WIMP. I just saw a spider the size of a 5p crawl across the coffee table and nearly went into conniptions.

Funny, reading this thread I saw a house spider scuttling around the skirting board in the front room, got Dad to remove it..

See spiders and wasps I HATE.

My parents find it ironic I'll ge bit by an angry 4ft corn yet not touch a spider..

One time last summer there was a horrid fat wasp on my kitchen window, i legged it back into the lounge and catapulted the argos book at it.

*trundles off to find an anti spider/wasp BB gun...*

I held a chilian rose tarantula on a school trip to get myself to stop being so afraid of spiders. I won't go in and pick one up to throw out of the house, but I'll get the bug catcher thing and take it out. My OH, who's 6"10 and stocky, screams like a girl when he see's a spider or bug. I'm the one who has to get rid of them, all 5"2 of me. Psh, men these days lol.

I'm fine with house spiders etc. I read a book on Aussie spiders (my gran has a passion for botany and insects and has loads of amazing books!) and was like WTF is THAT??? there are luminous seethrough green ones etc.......I think the UK ones I can handle, I won't run screaming from bigger ones if they're pets and under control, but might flinch if they move!!!!

We'd either get Massive feathered spiders that lay tasty eggs, or we'd get chickens with 8 legs!! 8 drumsticks off 1 chicken FTW.

K, have you ever thought about seeking psychiatric help? Lol. Mind you though, 8 drumsticks would be handy for larger families though

But you would never be able to pick a chicken with 8 legs up :o they kick enough with 2! Imagine 8! Then I would never be able to force my hugs upon my chickens XD

Spider eggs might be tasty already :p I imagine it's like a dryer caviar.

i like spiders. the OH on the other hand doesnt so i being a lovly gf will gladly deal with them, we currently have one living on the ceiling of our living room im not allowed name her as he said we cant keep her. her name is sally :D . my aunt has a huge fear of spiders when she was a kid if she saw a spider in her bedroom at night she taped it to the wall or ceiling so they wouldnt crawl in her mouth when she was asleep lolz.

I know how you feedl. I use to eat worms and spiders when I was little and one year I can remember catching bee's and wasps and putting them into an old fish plastic tank. I wanted to study bugs and insects when I was little.

Now I am so freaked out by them! I hate all bugs and insects now, it's kind of embarrassing... I kind of do the thing where a chicken gets scared and sort of squat down, close my eye and sort of stamp my feet :/ they just... creep me out. I don;t like the idea of them touching me!

There's a massive spider on the garage sat on the snake bedding T.T I hope he's alive and scuttles away soon...

I used to freak out when I saw all but the smallest spider but when my daughter was born I started training myself to not show her my fear, not wanting to pass it on. Now she and daddy collect and investigate all the spiders before returning them to the garden and I've got much better. I only walk away quickly from the really big ones and I don't even shout.

The last time I got really worried was when I found a spider in my box of locusts. It was the quickest spider I've ever seen, literally jumped out of the box and it was really aggressive. It had it's front legs up in the air threatening me. I've seen three of those ones - not nice.

Well, it's nice to know I'm not the only one! For some reason, it's only spiders which are smaller than tarantulas. I expect this is, as I mentioned somewhere else a few days ago, being from Texas...which means finding tarantulas in your house every summer (and in one case when I was about 12, getting a big shock when I woke up and discovered that one had decided to cuddle up next to me in bed O_O). I just feel silly, finding the biggest, fuzziest spiders to be completely delightful when spindly ones of the same size bring me to tears, bahaha.

LOL. I don't like spiders either. Hubby has to deal with them for me or the dogs! They don't stand much chance in our house with our Ellie (Border Terrier) she soon sorts them out.
