We have 3 great chickens and i'm having to let them go because of a miserable nieghbour. we moved 2 doors up into a rented house and all was well but the moaning git next door stopped the landlord at the weekend and "voiced his concern about his decking becoming a rats nest" out of the 12 houses our side of the street all but 3 have at least one cat , i keep them spotless and the food and water are off the ground. his bins are going to attract more rats! i'm fuming! the missus doesn't want any hassle and is worried we'll lose the house so a couple are coming in the morning to rehome them. :( i could swing for the idiot its so petty and ARRRUGH! sorry rant over. carry on .

Lol....I'm a nice guy really, just don't cross me lol....I'm not really an urban terrorist or am I???? lol....I had a run in with this Jobsworth a few years back which really ticked me off.He had the enviromental boys around saying I was keeping dangerous animals etc. And tried to get the council involved to get me evicted.I didn't even know the guy and he wasn't an imediate neighbour either, until he started poking his nose into my affairs. I didn't own my own place back then.It caused a lot of wasted time on their part and on mine....So I made him pay, big time and not long after I moved anyway.......Those flies took him months to get rid of........Muhawhaaaaaaaaaa........

At least the chickens lay an egg each every day...The cats don't do anything but eat and sleep. The chickens earn their keep...I'd be fuming too.

This is very very true.

The man is obviously a bit of a pleb, can understand why you are so furious with him, people like that make my blood boil.

Does your landlord know you have snakes?
Otherwise that'll be the next thing the neighbour whines about.

What you should've said is that there is NO rat population there, because your snakes get them all.

he doesn't have any rats, there are rats about but they are in most areas, not because of my chickens. he's just an idiot. it would be like me complaining to his landlord(but he owns the house) about him building decking could attract a rats nest. some people are just born plonkers sadly

You can actually prove that the chickens are not the cause for rats under the neighbours decking.

If rats were attracted by your chickens for whatever reason, they wouldn't stray that far from whatever attracted them.
Weirdly enough, if he does have rats then putting seed out for wild birds will attract them more then your chickens.
Rats wont often go to close to chickens because foxes are higher up in the food chain than them. :)

oh hun that sounds really cr@p
but at least you've found somebody willing to take them on as pets which is great for the chickens (if its any small consolation?) *hugs*
