So sorry to hear of your loss, Brookestar... We're so gutted for you. As the others have said, please don't feel guilty. We're absolutely positive that you've done everything you can for her as everyone can tell how much you love and care for your snakes.

Best wishes during this difficult time...

sorry to hear that.

Oh Brookestar that's awful!

Don't feel guilty, it's just one of those things. I would say mites too or severe hunger, as snakes sometimes go for anything that moves when they are hungry, including themselves . But if she fed the night before then it can't be that. Unless she still had the smell of mouse upon her?

Another possibility is a neurological disorder as I've heard some snakes can bite themselves when their brains aren't functioning as they should. If that is the case then there is nothing you could have done anyway.

Don't beat yourself up about it!

Brookestar...I know I cant find the words that will make you feel any better at the moment, it is something you are just going to have to take time to work through and grieve over. I know the loss of any snake is terrible, but for it to be that one and in that way is just so hard to take.

You must not feel guilty (I know, easy words to type but hard to action). There is nothing you could have done, even if you had checked it earlier it might have been too late, or might have happened after you walked out of room. It has happened and beating yourself up about it will only make you feel worse. You know in your head that you are a fantastic and experienced snake owner and that your snakes are blessed to be cared for by you...it is just your heart is broken at the moment, but it will heal and you mustnt let it crowd out what you know you are - a snake lover who does everything she can for her snakes.

These things happen, we cant explain them, we cant change them. Unfortunately you have to learn to live with them.

You are in my thoughts and prayers Brookestar.

Sorry for your loss Brookestar. You said they had just been fed, is there any chance the little one got the sent off the pinkies on it? That's something that may have caused it to bite itself.

Brookstar, I am so sorry. For this to happen to any one of your snakes would be incredibly sad but it's magnified by all your plans and dreams for the breeding programme being lost for now. I have no idea why this happened but just want to echo SexyBear's comment that no one can question how much you care for your animals. It's a horrible situation to be in and hopefully a very rare one.

Big hugs...

Brookestar Posted - 18/12/2009 : 18:49:44
what would?
hillzi Posted - 18/12/2009 : 18:38:51
It wouldn't have caused it to bite herself.

Brookestar Posted - 18/12/2009 : 16:45:48
