Posted - 08/09/2009 : 16:04:54 I got told off by Jo, my wife, last night for bursting out laughing and shouting "You're having a laugh" at the telly whilst she was watching Waking the Dead. I really wish that the BBC would get some scientific advisors in so that the forensic scientist character isn't talking out of her bum anymore. Sorry for the rant but it really got my goat . |

Lol! One of my boys had to have his foot stitched, having had a forceful encounter with a broken plate. The entire gang watched closely, then one of them said, "This is easy. Can I have a go?"
They also grilled the guy about the different threads he was using, and the conversation turned to stitching eyeballs. Next day they went to school and informed their primary school teacher what they had learned.

Posted - 08/09/2009 : 21:45:11 While I was under the knife last week* the skin surgeon remarked to her assistant that she didn't know whether or not to watch Holby City or Grand Designs on TV that night. I told her if she watched Holby City I was leaving then and there whether I was stitched back together or not!

Posted - 08/09/2009 : 21:19:21 I am afraid I have no knowledge of forensics, hospital care, policing, bugs etc......but I accept that what I see on tv probably isnt accurate but I still enjoy watching it, I guess because I dont know any better. No knowledge = good tv!! xxx |

Posted - 08/09/2009 : 19:44:39 The final straw was at two stages after the discovery of the 'ripe' bodies. The character assumed that all the stages of the blowfly were from the human corpse when there was a canine corpse within 10 metres. Blowfly larvae migrate after feeding 10+ metres from a corpse so they could have migrated from either body. A human corpse in the state portrayed would not still be hanging up. Trust me on that one. And then she completely misidentified the blowfly species for one that has a pupation period about a third again longer than the species she was looking at under the microscope. The one she said it was has big ginger victorian style mutton chop sideburns and there was also no way of differentiating between Calliphora vomitoria and Calliphora vicina by looking where she was looking . I could go on but I've just realised how long this post is. Sorry for ranting
I might write to Points of View just for the comedy value of Wogan reading out a letter about human decomposition, lol
Edit: The name of a very famous british author was starred out so reworded. |

Posted - 08/09/2009 : 19:29:22 I have the same problem with so called medical/hospital shows. They get CPR totaly wrong most of the time and do the most stupid of things with syringes and IV infusions. Emergency situations are the best though and have me PMSL most of the time and they are supposed to have a "medical" expert as an adviser. I wouldn't want them working on me thats for sure...Worst culprits are ER, Holby City, Casualty etc infact most of them perform "howlers" on a regular basis....... |

Not familiar with the show, but fully understood on the sentiment. What pearl of wisdom did they come up with?
I won't go into detail cos it is a bit grim and some may not have strong stomachs. Let's just say it revolved around forensic entomology and her assumptions which were totally flawed. |
