its getting worse i think. these idiots keep giving herps a really bad name. especially with the snake eating a cat..

I don't think it's going to be long before something happens regarding liscences and laws that will change the way we can keep certain snakes.

Its another case similar to the dogs one;

its the owner how they treat the animals and not the animal itself

Kai my 3 year old daughter loves to let Cash sit on her head or drape himself over her shoulders. He will just sit there for ages! She also likes it when hes senting the air and tickles her face with his tongue.
Yet my mate whos a 6ft copper wont come within 3 ft of Cash when hes out even if its Kaila whos holding him!.......its a strange old world

Stuff like this story annoys me - just because people are stupid with their care of of their pets shouldn't mean that the other 99.9% that look after their snakes should suffer. Lucius is the most docile pet I've ever had and that includes cute little fluffy hamsters!

I wear hoodies and only put the hood up if its cold or windy. it was windy one evening ago and 2 people walked in the road to go past me, when i was on my own walking my ratty dog.. its a ruddy joke how the media sterotype us, I live on the outskirts of a town and there has been no stabbings here, some guy went to stroke my dog, he looked me in the eye, i smiled and said hey mate he looked away and walked on..

Out of stress most likely Kellog.

Kellog Posted - 12/08/2009 : 22:19:31
Am feeling really sorry for the snake that supposedly 'attacked' the youth. Can you imagine what its owner must be like, how it must be treated and what was done to it to make it 'attack'? xxx

This is a really depressing hobby to be in right now, Why does it seem everyones against us?!
Brookestar Posted - 12/08/2009 : 17:21:03
i agree hillzi. i get it as well. omg you own a snake eww! and the best one if heard is "how can you own something so slimey!!! what is that about slimey! articles like this are wrote and read by people who dont understand snake and therefore get escalated into problems that needent be around if people took the time ti understand a snake wouldnt bite a human unless provoked
Stumpy Posted - 12/08/2009 : 06:29:03
The story is a bit off as it does mention that the boy has two puncture wounds in his arm.
Constrictors don't have fangs just four rows of teeth.
hillzi Posted - 11/08/2009 : 23:43:16
Well some lad got attacked by a snake which ever way you look at it.

But I do think if not already, wer'e going to get a bit more grief for owning snakes.

I know I get it all the time "You own a snake! eww!" etc etc.
HannahB Posted - 11/08/2009 : 22:01:27
i read the metro and the sun's versions of that story where the kid got pinned to the ground on the wall and was attacked by 4 different lads holding one snake... lol
it got me so confused
Kellog Posted - 11/08/2009 : 21:33:04
Definitely not off topic HannahB, think it is all relevant to what we have been reading in the papers and what is being suggested. I just would love to know the truth behind the Wilbur incident and the Youth incident rather than the papers artistic licence! xxx
HannahB Posted - 11/08/2009 : 20:20:51
whoops think i went a bit off topic there.. sorry!!!
HannahB Posted - 11/08/2009 : 20:20:18
i used to have a staffy (she lives with my ex now) and although she was a sturdy lil girl she was the daftest thing ever.. she was more likely to lick you than bite you (luke can vouch for that lol!) But the amount of people who commented on her telling me she was a pit cause of her colour (someone trying to tell me that you cant get brindle staffs...) or when she was growing her legs grew longer before she widened up i had people telling me shes "too tall to be a staff"..that really got on my nerves! it really gets to me when people have nothing better to do than say that one rogue animal means that they all are.. like others have said its all about the owners and how they are bought up.. yeah there are a few rogues but hey people dont go round saying all children are bad because some go round robbing and being yobs do they!?!

theres a story in the papers/internet about Bruce the dog in Northern Ireland and how although he is a staffy he has been detained indefinitly and is currently facing being put down simply because he 'looks like a pit bull type dog'... i dont know if any of you have read of the story.. its heartbreaking and even tho he has not been proven to be a pit bull or even partly pit bull he is still deemed 'dangerous' BUT he has never shown any nasty tendencies or gone for anyone - he is great with children and all people but someone looked at him the wrong way and reported him for being a banned breed - probably someone who cant tell a poodle from a great dane (no offence to anyone but it gets on my nerves!)...because he lives in northern ireland he is likely to be put down but a rescue shelter in the ROI is willing to let him live out his years there as there is no dangerous dogs legislation there..

this is the facebook site...

and if anyone is interested in signing the petition to try and give him one last chance to be saved..

owning a staff really opened up my eyes to the predujice a lot of dogs and in some ways a lot of people face.. ive managed (somehow) to keep this down to a min but on a good day i could go on about breed legislation for hours.. ask luke if you dont believe me lol

i think it would bring more problems if pythons and the like were deemed 'dangerous'.. its the same with pit bulls... after they were deemed 'dangerous' loads of people went out and got them or pit bull crosses for the wrong reasons and brought them up in the wrong way.. (not implying you did hyper ) A friend of mine runs a pit bull rescue out in america and rehabilitates and rehomes strays and rescued fighting dogs and 95% of them can be rehabilitated and then go on to be great companions.. If I could have one I definately would - not for the status but for the same reasons people get chihauhau's ect - for the company and the joys that come with owning a dog

imagine what could happen to so many snakes if young people in particular decide 'lets get a python.. they scare people and are classed as dangerous...'

sorry for all the waffling...

I know RSPCA is underfunded for what it already does, Lucifer, I just wish there was a way of confirming that all pets are with good owners - in a perfect world, I guess, and our world is so far from perfect. xxx
hiper2009 Posted - 11/08/2009 : 16:18:09
I have a american pit bull but she is so sweet had her since a lil pup and she has never turned vicious on us its not down to the dog its down to the owner its self on how they treat these dogs, I have had Rspca came out to me to confirm if its a pitbull or not and i have a fake birth paper that says its a cross with a staff so they cant put her down or anything but she is so nice with my snake she lets champagne sit on her back while laying down .

What annoys me about this snake story is the fact they have a picture of a python that is most definitely not green but the boy who was attacked says the snake was green so wtf !

I’m fed up off people claiming the snake is one thing and being completely different! In the evening post today they have no picture of the snake but the dude thinks it was a boa constrictor OR a python but still thinks is green ! ... almost every single snake attack story I have read includes the victim saying it is a boa constrictor.. It just shows their ignorance!
i understand that not everybody knows about the different species of snake and don’t get me wrong I’m no expert in species of snakes, but I know the difference between a boa constrictor and a green snake! I just wish people would stop guessing and actually do some research.
I think the snake was a Green Tree Python because firstly its green and secondly they reach about 4-5 ft

I pray to God that the American law is not legalised just in case they want to do the same over here in the UK with the Dangerous Wild Animals Act ! its bad enough the owners of that cat who got eaten by a burm want to ban boa constrictors and all pythons ! I’ve know many people who keep royal pythons who reach 4-5 ft as you guys know, and they are NOT dangerous, the odd bite happens and they can’t kill you so why put them on the dangerous wild animals act!

and with the case of the cat being eaten by the burm the other week .. I feel sorry for the owners but why the hell are cats allowed to go into other peoples gardens because firstly they end up defecating all over the place which is not nice ! And secondly its someone else’s property.. I know that you cannot train a cat not to go into other peoples gardens and that cats have their own rules when it comes to "who owns what" with other cats in the area, but its annoying to wake up in the morning to find a pile ofpoopon your stones and a cat sitting on YOUR garden wall! That burm had the right to b in its owners garden its just a shame that the dude left him/her outside alone!

sorry for the rant but I’m fed up of un-educated people thinking all snakes are the same, stating the snake who attacked them was a boa constrictor without actually knowing the species who attacked them, and then trying to ban then. And im fed up of owners treating them like a weapon and not understanding the consequences to all rep keepers !
