Nearly all of my 22 hatchlings have shed so I decided to clean their beds whilst removing the skin. One snake bit me 15 times and as every other hatchling was taking lumps out me I've only cleaned 6 so far! My last ones were never this aggressive - is this normal?

I thought things were pretty bad so I was relieved to pick up a snow who, although very wriggly, was showing no sign of aggression. That was until he decided that he was going to eat my knuckle! I initially thought that he was taking a quick 15 bites like the rest of them, but oh no, he was disclocating his head and moving the jaws around and over my knuckle as if trying to eat it! My knuckle is scraped and bloody and I am feeling battered and bruised!

Ouch, twenty two bites, not counting the ones that bite more then once (fifteen times?! )

Hope they calm down for you soon - I bet they look like little cuties though!

Put some thin gloves on and remind yourself they are colourful shoe laces.

Guys, I am really terrified now - serves me right for thinking what a great novice breeder I was! But, seriously, I am frightened to handle them. Whoever said one week old hatchling bites do not hurt was LYING - THEY ARE VICIOUS!!! :(
Paulusworm Posted - 03/08/2009 : 18:00:00
lol. Oh dear. My adult is still like that. They'll calm down soon. Must admit that the one that tried to eat you sounds hungry .

somebody was hungry lol!
have you given them their first feed as they've shed?
BlueTongueDan Posted - 03/08/2009 : 15:30:21
Haha, I now undersand why their labelled 'naughty hatchlings' in your sig
Can understand them being nervous though, they are pretty small and vulnerable at that age.
