Today I have been working the Riverside Festival in Nottingham, a family friendly event run by the council.

This afternoon we had a gentleman who came to the lost child point and told the staff there his 2 children were missing. He gave a loose description of them, a boy and a girl approx 7 years old wearing Man Utd shirts.

Immediately we sent out our security staff to keep an eye out for these children, checking all rides and art areas.
After an hour and no sign, our on-site police presence called for back up from other units around the city to come to the site and assist searching for these children.
We basically put all exits in lock down looking for them while a team of security and police searched the site from top to bottom and back again looking, still no sign.

2 hours in, the next step was to call the lifeguard and lifeboat services to search all river banks and water for these 2 children and a general description of these children sent to all neighbouring police units in the city to look for them. Practically all of our security at this point alongside council workers and even binmen are searching bushes, bridges and bins looking for them.

2 and a half hours in the gentleman cracks under questioning and admits he lied about the whole thing, he had no children and was a hoax for his enjoyment. He even smiled and laughed as he was being thrown into the back of the police van!

[Rant over!]

I did the same job as you for a while down here in Portsmouth. My favourite moment was having the scrawny little chavs crying whilst restrained on the floor waiting for the Police to come get them. Strange when you think that a few seconds before that they would have been strutting around taking on the world .

How infuriating, a broken jaw should suffice.

Thats double edge of my job, I meet the best and worst people.
I'm either having a lovely conversation with you sorting out any issues you have or I'm throwing you out for being a numpty!

i would have gone mental at him..regardless of whether i was working or not.. while he was getting his kicks someone could have genuinely needed the lifeguards or the police..
so glad i was in birmingham and not there...

That's sick, especially the Man Utd tops detail. Remember Hollie and Jessica, the two little girls who went missing. Sadly they were found murdered. How do some people live with themselves?

I know that's why the police were a bit rough dragging him from lost child point to the van!

What a plank, I'd have give him a slap!!

I agree with most posts above.
I have children and I'd be absolutely panic stricken if I lost any of them, and to think that some people cause big searches purely for their own entertainment is sickening.

some stupid jerk. wastin police time while they could be stopping more important matters like raiding drug factories and stopping people being murdered. Yeah I think they would be needed at your fest; for the drunken idiots that just ruin fest's; but they dont need some complete plonker peeing about.

*changed slang term for police, some may not understand it
Brookestar Posted - 02/08/2009 : 22:26:23
he deserves to be locked away
Remmy Posted - 02/08/2009 : 21:56:17
Sorry but i hope they gave him a good beating in the back off the van.
lucifer Posted - 02/08/2009 : 21:07:00
Oh and forgot to mention during all this time he was crying and lapping up the attention of the female staff and female officers involved!

Myself and my colleagues had a few things to say to him before the van left.
