Weird topic title, but accurate.

I have my lovely fishy tank as well, and in it I have my Siamese fighters on a breeding project, this morning I decided to get another animal for the tank, so I trundle to my local weird fush shop, and come home happy with a Panther Crab. I've never had a crab in my fushy tank before, but I used to keep lobsters in it without a problem so assumed that crab would be no different.

Anyways at about half 8 this evening I notice that Richard, My Prize male fighter, isn't chasing his harem of 5 females around tonight. After a quick hunt of the tank, I find his poor little body being eaten by the crab. I was not pleased.
Crab is going back to shop tomorrw, and I'm gonna have to start again with another 'richard fish'.

I did take some piccys of crab this morning, and in the process took some of Richard as well, so I'll post up later on.
Wont get a crab again in this tank now.

Dude sorry about little Richard ! But I have to say that crab is a stunner. Never kept crabs in with my tropics just a few very big shrimps that could handle themselves until i got a burmese loach, bad move, decimated my tank (should have done my research) and he ended up living with a family of corys in a seperate tank. We even wrote a song about him Kenny Loachy he's a mean son of a b*tch, no one crosses Kenny Loachy. To a full on latino beatwith horns lol.

Good excuse to pick another stunning fighter though....

I asked the bloke in the shop specifically about the fighters, he said it should be ok, it's bottom dwellers that run the risk of becoming food.
Likewise, he covered himself/the shop by saying 'should be ok', he didn't say it WILL be.

Nasty Crab! Got my brother some land crabs a while ago for his birthday, not sure If I posted pics or not - hmmm will have to have a look. I think pets shops should give some warning things like this may happen. Richard was a good looking fighter!

Crab is gonna go back, I could set-up another tank but my 2 smaller tanks have been earmarked for use with other stuff.
My fault really, just because I had animals in my tanks in the past that normally eat fish and they didn't, doesn't mean it wont happen. Same rule can apply to snakes etc as well, so I should've known better.

Anyways, here's a couple piccys of the crab, and Richard, and some of his girls.

The crab

A couple of his girls.

My tank, you can see the crab in the crick box in the bottom, whilst he awaits collection.

I'm not massively bothered about the fish, but I should've known better, so there's a lesson to be learned.
