I thought I would share the small amount I did for Rosie's final Viv. I decided it was not enough work to warrant the DIY section

I bought one of the new medium VivExotic plus cabinet. Although not easy to see it is worth mentioning that there is not a seperate top to the cabinet. It fastens directly to the base of the Viv.

Here is the Viv minus the top. I decided to add a shelf that is about 20cm above the floor of the viv and 18cm deep. I bought a beech effect shelf from Wickes and cut it down to size.

I have used 16mm trunking to tidy the wires (attached with a glue gun). I also replaced the cheep plastic handles provided with the cabinet.

[

White tiles cover the heat mat and the probe and thermostat are glued to them.

The top of the viv including Ikea lights. I believe I owe some commission on this.

Decorated with Ivy from Hobby Craft and fake plants from Ikea. The cork on the shelf and the branch were donated by a friend who used to keep snakes. Just need to move two hides and a snake. Oh and to put in the glass!

The final set up. (Actually I added some ivy over the warm hide on the left as it looked exposed.)

Rosie loves her new cork hide on the shelf and can be seen keeping an eye on things through a small gap.

At the moment there is no bedding on the shelf as it would just be pushed off. I am considering adding some beading to give the shelf a lip. I could then add a shallow layer of bedding.

Thank you for looking

Rosie is a very spoilt snake ! It really does look good and I love the idea of the shelf, giving her some there to climb and more space. More and more DIYers are doing this sort of thing. I think the idea of adding a 'lip' to the shelf is sensible, so you can have substrate up there without it all being pushed off. Means if she pooes there it will be easier to clean if there's substrate to help soak it up .

I've recently changed over to those lights and am so pleased with them. Love the amount of foliage you've given her as well. All in all a job well done .

Stunning, especially like the addition of the shelf ( and so does Rosie, by the looks of it ).
