hey guys, I know I am committing a cardinal sin, but I have went and bought myself a new snake (not a corn).....gots myself a 4 month old royal :D! I have had the stuff for a new snake for weeks now, but just been tryin to get mum around to the idea of anothre snake! she said ok and i struck while the iron was hot. sooo i got him home today, but relaised i didnt have a thermostat for the heat mat :(, I have since ordered on but it will be a few days in arriving. do you all think its ok, to keep him on a mat that isnt regulated by a stat???, he is in a RUB at the moment with a hide, substrate and water bowl, heat mat, below one side of the RUB, plz help, i dont want to cook my snake alive, but dont want to turn the heat mat off until the stat comes either for him to freeze!!

Moved to General Posts by Kellog....because its not a corn

Does anyone know when you are using a ceramic heater for your viv set up for a royal, do u place ur thermometer and stat prob near the heater or at the bottom of the viv where the snake would lie??? Surely the closer u are to the heat source the warmer is it and u want the ambient temp of the warm side to be at the appropriate level, but just wanna get others people's expertise in on the subject? Cheers

Yeah LOTR films are very epic! Think they done a great job in producing those! Music score is also perfect! :)

I'm glad Lector has been out exploring, sounds like he's settling in nicely . And glad the stat will arrive soon.

The Hannibal books are excellent, much better than the films.

Hannibal is my favourite book, and I'm glad I saw the films before reading the books. The film Hannibal is awful, and would've resulted in a shoe being thrown at the TV...

Totally agree with you, Dan. Have read all 3 book a number of times and loved them. The film was ok, as long as I just watched it as though I hadn't read the book. That happens so often, films are made of great books and are rubbish. One of my favourite books is called 'The Power of One' by Bryce Courtney. Both my OH and I had read the book, but a friend hadn't. We watched the film together and she thought it was great....my OH and I could barely sit through it! So many important things left out, silly things changed for no reason and a love interest that didn't exist in the book and totally took away from the main story line .

At least they did 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' justice .

They prett in their own chunky way! :) since watching Hannibal I have since bought the books, haven't started them are they any good? Update on stat is been dispatched! :) whoop! Lecter was out and about last night, exploring! :)
Kellog Posted - 03/06/2013 : 07:06:16
Not sure I'd use the word 'enchanting' to describe him , but I know what you mean. Do love all the programmes like that, and books....anything to do with murder and psychology.

As mj has said, Lecter will be fine until you get the thermostat ....just don't feed him, obviously. The weather is lovely at the moment, so your room will be fairly warm and they are just as hardy as corns....if not as pretty .

Did you watch 'The Following'with Kevin Bacon?well sick.stopped watching a bit too far for me.
With regard to you teenie ones,I've got 2 baby Balls (Bugarit&Bugarum)and there sole purpose seems to be winding me up by getting out as often as pos.locked vivs, elastic bands round rubs IN the viv all no issue to them.
They have always turned up none the worse for their escapades-oddly they seem to go back to the viv area.
So if young Bugarit and Bugarum are o.k. at liberty for a day or so with no heat at room temp. then I recon yours should be o.k.too.
Heed the wise words of the lovely Kellog
There is also The Royal Python forum-though there are some folks there with crazy big snakes

A pic is definitely required.....just in the right place . I'm sure you won't let Sid feel left out, lots of extra handling time with him to make up for having an 'intruder' in the family .

Like the name 'Lecter'. Am watching Hannibal as well, having read the books and watched the films. Certainly different, but good....in a twisted sort of way .

Congrats :) If you just scroll down on the forum menu page you'll get to the 'other exotics' bit - loads of non-corns in there, so get on and post a pic :P

Cheers guys, i would put a pic up but i fear ur eyes will burn with its lack of corness :), Sid might feel a little put out lol, a new snake on the block and all that. yeah think im gonna call him Lecter (I have recently been watchin the new TV show Hannibal and its kinda in my head at the mo) :)
Kellog Posted - 01/06/2013 : 19:19:07
He'll be fine as long as you don't feed him. It's the better choice, having him at room temperature, which he can cope with for a bit, than have the heatmat on, not statted, and risk him getting burnt.

Congratulations on your new snake, even if it isn't a corn . Has he got a name?

ok, i've moved him off the heat mat, wont he be ok for a few days off without a mat? no hypothermia or anything
herriotfan Posted - 01/06/2013 : 18:48:09
Please don't use the mat without a stat, it could cause some terrible burns.
He would be safer with no heat than no stat on the mat if it's only until the stat arrives.
