Hey guys im looking for a bit of advice im getting a new corn hopefully soon and i want something a little softer than wood chips that i use for my adult corn venom i have now. Iv heard alot of people recommend aspen as a good bedding is there anything i should know or should i just pick up a bag off the internet as i cannot get it locally to me as iv heard about a rodent form of aspen

Checkout How to Post Images using the NEW photobucket or if you are on Facebook you can '....open the pic on facebook....then right click on mouse and then click on copy image location....then come on here and start a topic or click on reply to topic at the bottom of the page. Above the message box where you type your reply there a small box with a picture of what looks like mountains on a yellow background (insert image) click one this and it gives you image codes, click between the two of them then right click on mouse and hit paste '.......explanation stolen from Carmil07  .

They are beautiful. We think my ghost motley is crossed with a rat snake, as creamsicle's are. I'm wondering whether he will grow bigger than my 'pure' corn.

My 1year old corn snake loves aspen for hiding and playing hide 'n seek in. She loves to curl up in the aspen after feeding. My snake did have wood chips before but she is so much happier without them. :) |

I have cremsicle at the moment i usually dont like red eyed animals either but i dont mind it in snakes. My cremsicle venom started out a deep red but his colour has gotten really light as he got older its a mazing how different they look from hatchlings to adults |

Nice  !!! I do like the caramel but not the butter so much....I have a thing about red-eyed snakes  . They both change so much from hatchling to adult, it's as though they are different snakes.

hi all
thanks for all the help that given me some good ideas i will be posting lots of pics once i get my new baby cant wait till i can get him waiting for my local breeder to let me know when he has some avalible in the colour im after |

You've been given quite a few options Jane. Aspen is absolutely fine to use for your new snake although, as others have said, I personally would keep a hatchling on kitchen roll to begin with. Smartbunny's idea is good, about putting Lignocel in the hides....you could do that with whichever substrate you decide to use.
This thread is all about the different Substrate . There is also Hemcore, which I use, and a very similar substrate called Aubiouse. These are both horse beddings, but can be used with snakes. There is then the more modern substrates, like Lignocel, which I'm planning on changing to, Megazorb and Repticard.
Charles has made a good point about some of these being expensive unless bought in bulk, although you do have 2 snakes to provide for. Personally I hink the extra cost is worth it. I bought a bale of Hemcore a few years ago and am working my way through it. I've got enough for a couple more viv cleans and it has kept absolutely fine, where it is not damp and can't be got at by rodents.

Having only one snake a lot of the bedding suggested on the forum just comes in too large an amount to be practical for me. I have been using this for the last 6 months.

Of course it is much more expensive per ltr. Rosie is now in a 24" Monkfield and I suspect that one bag will last her 3 months at least. |

Lignocel is really soft. I agree to put a hatchy on kitchen roll just for the first few weeks - but I pop some lignocel in the hides as well. |

hemp core is similar to aspen and safe for corns, ligoncel is a popular choice too and finer than aspen, If your getting a hatchling I'd start him/her off on paper towel as its easy to clean and spot poo! |
