Hi guys
I've had Archie my 7 month old corn snake for just over 2 weeks now and I have noticed his eyes have clouded blue slightly and he was reluctant to be handled and fed in his normal box , he seemed dis-interested in his food when I presented it to him , so placed him back in the viv with the pinks on a dish for him to consume in his own time.
Just wondering if this normal behaviour when a shed is imminent and if leaving the food like that for him was a good idea?
Still a bit new to this snake keeping lark haha just like to know if I'm doing the right thing is all !

Just shows how our corns like to keep us on our toes and worrying about them  . Am so glad he ate and hope that he sheds ok when the time comes  .
By the way, don't think I haven't noticed that you got past the 'swear checker' by misspelling, with asterisks, a certain word   !!!

Left them in over night, went to the tank this morning to have a look , still there, so went to the kitchen to get the tongs and a bag , came back and there he was stuffing his face , cheeky b******d! |

I've got two in blue at the moment but all of mine eat when in blue so it just depends on the snake |

Slink and Smartbunny are right, Tom. Archie's behaviour is normal, although it is a bit of a close gap between sheds. This could be explained, as Smartbunny said, by what you've been told about his last shed being wrong or because he had some sort of injury. Another explanation would be if he has put on a lot of weight since you got him. It's nothing to worry about though, it's all totally natural . I would suggest that you keep a record of the dates that he sheds, along with his weight, dates of feeding, etc.
Checkout this thread Shedding and dealing with shedding problems so that you know what to expect. I do hope you get to see Archie shed....but corns are notorious for frustrating us and doing it in the few minutes our backs are turned !! Let us know how he does.

Totally normal - snakes tend to hide away when going into blue and although some do eat quite happily, others refuse at this time. It's fine to leave the food overnight and just remove it the next morning if not eaten. It does sound a little early to be shedding, would normally expect it to be around the 4 weeks mark at that age - but are you absolutely sure he had shed just before you got him? I wouldn't worry, but one thing just to look out for is if he has any damage, if he has scratched himself on anything sharp in the viv for example, as damaged scales can often cause an earlier shed. I doubt it's that though! Good luck, hope he sheds all in 1 piece for you and don't forget to check the eye caps and tail tip come off properly :) |

Hi I am also fairly new to this but from what I have gathered from others, snakes can be known to go off their food when about to shed but all snakes are different, also leaving the food in for the snake is fine just take it out the next morning if snakey hasn't taken it and just try feeding again at the normal time next week. Regarding the 2 and a half weeks between sheds I think that is fairly normal for a 7 month old but again does vary from snake to snake. If I were you I wouldn't worry.

Oh and also it's been about 2 and a half weeks since his last shed is this a reasonably normal time scale between sheds ? |
