To save money I'm going to make my snakes some bigger hides with salt dough but I'm stupid and a tad confused.

When I bake the dough do I need to keep it on the mould (a large exo terra hide I already have) or do I dry it until it holds it's shape first then bake it?
I've got a Rayburn (small version of the Aga) which I can turn down to a really low heat. Could I put the dough on the exo terra hide and bake both?
Should I coat the exo terra hide with a thin layer of oil before putting the salt dough on it?

Please help!!

No oil, take off mould, bake low heat

Sorry Herriotfan, I'm not commenting to help....just to say how much the thought of you sitting there, half-cut, waiting for your dough to bake, has made me smile !!

Good job you warned me about Exo Terra hides.
I'm sitting here (half cut!) as we write, waiting to see what happens as the salt dough is baking in the Rayburn!
.....................taken it out.
It would seem sometimes drinking is good for you
Thanks mate.

I don't know about the salt dough but don't recommend baking the Exoterra hide. It is made of plastic resin and even a low heat could be a fire hazard.

Save money, time and effort. Carpet tubes are free and you can cut them to any size. My lot like being in, under or perched on top like a tree boa.
