Posted - 01/01/2013 : 21:58:28 I've had my first real bonding tonight, he was a little jumpy again at first but settled well and has had a good explore lol. Managed to weigh him aswell. He came in at 230 g. couldn't get an accurate measurement so used the sette and feel he's around 33/34 inches. Managed to get my thermometer set up properly aswell now he's calmer which has pleased me but think I need to get a thermasat asap as its 33 on the hot side. I was told it wouldn't need one but from what I've gathered from this site it's a must |

Posted - 10/01/2013 : 22:10:13 My butter just goes wherever he's most comfortable, if you've got a hot, medium and cool area of the viv then the snake will decide, but get a stat though |

Posted - 04/01/2013 : 09:18:41 Glad the handling went well. I keep my temps at 28c hot spot. My snakes just move around to thermoregulate as necessary. You need a stat asap!!!! Once you get one you can set the temperature. It's a good idea to use a digital thermometer to keep a check on temps. Just use an elastic band to join the stat and thermometer probes together. |

Posted - 04/01/2013 : 09:04:13 From what I've experienced, if a hot end is too hot, the snake will choose to stay more towards the cool end (although not completely in the cool end... more like in between, where the temps are right). Has anyone else noticed this? I suppose it would make sense as a survival mechanism too, for the snakes to move to a zone where the temperature is just right for them ^^ |

Posted - 02/01/2013 : 19:50:11 I've got the temp down to 29 now by increasing the air gap underneath which surprisingly has also helped bring up the cool side as i had a concern it was too cool only 15/16 but it's come up to come 19 |

Posted - 02/01/2013 : 19:26:42 If your mat is running at 33 I would switch it off and not feed until you get your stat and get it ASAP. It is shocking that so many people are told that a stat is not needed, any heat source requires a stat no matter what. |

Posted - 01/01/2013 : 22:33:38 Yup, A thermostat is definitely a must. 33 degrees is too hot for a corn snake, it shouldn't go about 30 degrees max. High temperatures can even cause brain damage to snakes. There's so many places that give bad advice about stats etc, at least you know now
Glad handling went well for you both. I use a website to measure the length of my corns, you just take a picture from above of them next to a ruler or something then work it out using this: http://serpwidgets.com/main/measure |

Posted - 01/01/2013 : 22:09:03 Glad the handling went went well, so annoying when people get told they dont need a stat, or even a heat mat sometimes. At least you came to the best possible place for your corn!
