Just wondering if any of you have had problems caused by your snakes sitting on the temperature probes?

I got a little worried when my new normal curled herself around the probe, the pulse stat stopped flashing as it thought the mat needed to be hotter and the digital thermometer reading went down. I know it is because she is cooler than the mat and so the readings aren't accurate but will it get too hot and harm her??

How do I stop this happening? I tried putting the probe under her cereal box (currently waiting for new bigger hides...)but she can get underneath the box and still sit on it if she wants to (and track marks in the aspen would suggest she does...).

Should I be worried? Or am I just being overly paranoid about my new arrival? I've never noticed anything like this with my littluns, I guess because they're too small to affect the reading as much.

Tess does this as well, my unit beeps loudly when it detects a temp variance outside of the tolerance. She has a knack of doing it around 2am on a weeknight making me get up and search the house thinking the fire alarms going off!

I tie the stat probe, using a thin piece of string, to the heat mat wire so that it sits just on the heat mat and is unable to be pushed off the mat. I always have the probe out side of the hide as well, to one edge, so its generally not layed on.

Had that problem myself last year i stuck the probes down with some blue tack and covered them with aspen ti seemed to work ok apart from the odd heart attack when it got dislodged by one of them

It needs securing under something really.

I used to always hold the probe down under the edge of the hide :)
