Hi Guys,

Recently bought a new corn snake for the 1st time and have a couple of questions if anyone would be kind enough to answer.

1/ My ter is 18 inches wide and i have a 5 inch and 11 inch wide heat mats. I know neither is 1/3 to 1/2 the size recommended but which would be better to use please? (or tell me if i need to buy a new 7 or 9 inch)

2/ Should the exo terra dial thermometer i have be placed on the substrate or the perspex base to monitor temps? At the moment it's sat on the warm side on top of substrate with a stat keeping it at 80F

3/ This is a silly question which i am probably doing it right but would like to be sure. I have the bluelizard starter kit (wood sides, glass front with a top opening lid, i'm sure you guys know the one. the perspex base has a gap in the centre, i'm presuming the heat mat slides into this gap and that's what it is there for?

4/ Final question, ideal placement of the thermostat probe. At the moment it's sat on the warm side sort of buried in the substrate. Should it just be laid flat or the round "tip" to be forced to contact the base?

Sorry guys for so many questions, i just want the best start for my new snake as possible.

Cheers.

Just another general query.

Is there one make of heat mat that is generally thought of as the best or is one just as good as another?

Cheers

Get a digital thermometer, the dial ones are useless.
Yes you are right the mat goes inbetween the glass.
The stat probe needs to be in contact with the glass over the mat and lay it down flat.

Thanks for that, i'll pick up a digital thermometer online now.
