Ceramic temps advice wanted please.
Just moved our royal into his first viv. He has been in a rub with heat mat. The temps are reading 28.6c in cool end, hot end is 30.7c underneath his hide and 34.5c on top of his hide. Are these ok? All temps are taken using a digital thermometer, stat temp dial is set at 36c to get these temperatures.
I am an Anxious grandma to him lol. |

Ok I will have a fiddle around with it today and see what can be achieved. Heat mats are so much easier than these ceramics. |

Yes, but as you have a 4 degree difference between the top of the hide and underneath then there must be some blocking of the heat making the usable temperature gradient a bit low. I'd bet he would spend more time inside the hide than on top. The inside of the hide reads a couple of degrees below the recommended max.
A standard resin hide would actually reach and hold a higher temperature than the wooden one eventually. That fiddlestix hide will block a lot of heat and would not hold any build up of heat underneath. I suggest moving it and getting the basking spot temp up to 33 max. |

You are right to go by the digi-thermometer readings. See what you get by just moving the hide.
Yes the hide is directly under the ceramic. So you are saying to move the hide slightly to the side of the ceramic so that the floor infront of the hide reaches the hotest but the hide is slightly cooler. I've made a point of not using a hide made of resin as I thought this would stop most of the heat. The hide we are using is the bendable wooden arch type so heat can pass through it more. Not sure of the name, fiddlestix maybe? |

Not an expert on royals, but maybe a rock under the lamp would be appreciated for baskimg?, would also help when it comes to stripping off |

I think the temp range gradient should ideally be 26-> 33 C so you are not too far off.
Is the hide directly under the ceramic lamp? Maybe move it slightly so that the floor basking area has the max temp. If you made the inside of the hide up to temp then the top of the hide might get too hot.
