Just picked up my two snakeys from their holiday boarding, and they are both fine and not sold at all - don't know what I was worrying about...

Anyway, wanted to have Bazil probed for ages, so asked to have him done, which the lady in the shop kindly did for me - and he is a she! So much for tail length and scale count. Her tail is exactly the same length as Little Twiddlers ( comparing sheds at the same size ), who is definitely a male - and her scale count is 71 - 72 pairs, Little T's is 72 - 73 pairs.
I did suspect this for a while now, as her tail is tapering slightly differently to Little T's, but couldn't say for sure... now I know, and will be changing her name to Bazilishka ( as hubby wants her to stay Bazil ). So, I have boy and girl...

AAAND if I bred him to Bazil, I'd find out if Bazil was het caramel, being so yellow.. ;-)

I know, and I like him very much. What's put me off to start with was that when he first came in, he often regurgitated, so I was worried he could be ill. He stayed very small as well, but is now eating ok. I'm a bit worried if he was ill that my other two could get it as well, and of course, hubby is another matter - dead against getting another :-(..
He also hasn't sold because he is a bit bitey, he can go for you as soon as you open the tub, but it's all just for show, if you put a hand over him and pick him up, he's fine, just nervous. I very much like his colours ( gold dust motley ) and feel sorry for him being in the shop for so long, ( it's a nice shop, but still ) AAND last time I handled him, he didn't even try to bite me...

( I thought if I let him, he might relent about a little snakey I had my eye on in local reptile shop for ages...he's been in there for almost a year now and would really like to come home with me...)

oooh like the female version. poor snakie being in shop for so long

Glad that they are both okay

That would be why people say to only use visual methods as a guide because they aren't always accurate.

Just goes to show you can never rely on visual methods, as a lot of animals are built differently! It's an indicator, but not certain. I had a "female" snake for 11 years before I found out it was a boy.. Oops! All those lesbian snake jokes... Just turned out he was a bit of a lad! haha!
