Last year my son wanted 'his own pet' so after a while we decided on a cornsnake. Well you guessed it, the novelty has now worn off!!!

Rusty (snake) struck at my son a few months ago and drew blood (not alot, just the usual pin ***** marks) so now my son is very nervous of Rusty and will not take him out of the viv (this is when he tends to strike)so its now left to me to look after Rusty.

Rusty struck at me several times when I tried to get him out at the weekend and this has now made me nervous!! I left my hand inside the viv until he had settled down a bit and managed to get him out but he was not happy. He actually struck at me and I managed to move my finger and he bit himself!!!

Anyway looks like I am gonna be left to deal with Rusty for the next 15 or so years. Perhaps I should have let my son have the hamster he initially wanted, at least we wouldn't have had it for long.

What a shame that he's lost interest x.x

I have had Rusty for over a year and he has been fine but just lately he is getting really spiteful. Tagged me big time tonight but although I jumped I still got him out and then he was fine. Cheeky little git just doesn't want to come out and play anymore.

Seams like a good opportunity to teach your son about responsibility..

if it makes you more confident you can always wear gloves to start with, like others have said keep at it he'll soon come around

Just keep working at it slowly but surely.

I know how it feels to have a snakey who is really frantic and bitey and you feel so nervous of going anywhere near snakey but you know in your head you have to or it will never get sorted. You'll get there

Keep short handling sessions, only put back when calm, have you put a clean sock with your scent on in with him?
