Why are some people against rubs allthough im new to snake keeping they seam perfick to me i even think they are better than vivs cos of the opake colour may be making the snake feel less thretend? |

I don't have a problem with people using RUBS that are a suitable size for the individual snake. Infact I think they are very useful. However I have yet to find a RUB that is a suitable size for an adult corn. I know most breeders use 33/50/64 litre rubs for their adults but I really do feel these are just to small for adults. Floor space of 24" by 14" is just not big enough for adults. All of mine are in vivs and they use every inch of floor space and height of the viv. Maybe alot of peoples adult corns only grow to just over 3ft but my adult corns are all well over this even my four 2 year old corns are over 3ft and fast approaching 4ft. Vivs are more pleasing to the eye than RUBS but interanlly RUBS can be decorated the same as vivs. The big plus for RUBS is the cleanliness. It really is easier and quicker for the owner to clean RUBS than vivs and probably more hygienic as well, no problems with poo getting stuck to the sealant etc. And of course there is the cost. RUBS are ALOT cheaper to buy than vivs so people keep alot more snakes. There is always plenty of reasons why people use RUBS but not neccessarily for the good of the snake. |

Well I as a new snake owner of 3 babies, I don't house them in the tiny rubs, they have (each) 14"x9" , 6" high, hides, loo rolls, fake plants, all stated with heatmats and thermomaters, they really love do love it, I made the mistake of buying a bigger viv, thinking I could of housed 2 of them in there, but that was before I discovered this site ( which is fab ), when they do get bigger I will obviously re-house them into matching homemade vivs, my husband is looking forward to that lol, me being supervisor ;p |

I keep my two in RUBs just because it would cost me a fortune to keep upgrading viv sizes until there big enough for their forever homes.
I grow them on in Rubs and once they hit about 2ft9/3ftish ill move them but again they can spend their lives in rubs and aslong as the temps are correct and the box is the correct size rubs are perfectly adequate  |

I think if you've got lots of snakies with limited space and not too bothered about showing them off then a RUB is perfect.
If you've only got a couple of snakies and want to show them off then vivs are perfect.
II think it's more down to personal preference more than anything |

Just one of those things that divides opinion i have to say i use both vivs and rubs as some of my snakes are more comfortable and easier to handle in rubs because they are more relaxed.
The ones that arent bothered have nice big vivs one of my royals wont eat in a viv so has to be kept in a rub. Its just one of those things its very much personal preference theres no right or wrong argument here usually i plan to rear mine up to yearling size then move them into vivs but some just dont like them and id rather do whats best for the snake that force them to live in something thats going to stress them out. |
