Posted - 25/07/2012 : 17:41:00 Ideally guinea pigs should have access to hay at all times, they should be fed fresh veg and occasionally fruit as they need Vitamin C from their food and although their complete food should contain it, it breaks down quite quickly and loses it's value. This is especially important if the guinea pig is pregnant. Not giving them enough vitamin C can result in scurvy.
Normally guinea pigs are pregnant for between 59 and 73 days so 3 months is a long pregnancy. Usually you can see the babies moving around in their tummy about a week before they give birth, but not always. The day before they give birth their pelvis widens and you can feel a gap at the base of the spine. Guinea pigs are good mothers and usually have no problems with birth but it is a good idea to read up on signs of possible problems so that you know when/if you have to take them to a vet.
This is a fantastic website for research http://www.guinealynx.info/index.html if you need to know more.

Posted - 25/07/2012 : 07:09:46 I don't have experience with pregnant ones but I can definitely help with general keeping advice, and I can help with pregnancy in theory but I haven't had pregnant guinea pigs myself. |
