Posted - 30/05/2012 : 09:35:53 Hi everyone! I'll be doing a snake lecture at a primary school tomorrow for kids around the age of 12. Part of the demonstration is to have the kids come up to me in small groups so I can show them some details on Saphira (e.g. split jaws, the "bar code" belly pattern, etc). In the meantime, the rest of the class needs to be kept busy.
My idea was to make a crossword puzzle with questions about snakes in general, and corn snakes. The only problem is I'm at a loss for good questions for 12 year olds. Could you guys help me find some nice questions?
Thank you in advance!

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 10:00:04 I can't, since I'll be busy myself showing off Saphira to small groups of children. Needed something they could do by themselves :) |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 11:52:01 Im sure you'll think of plenty! For wordsearch here's a load of snakey words like egg, shed, morph, vivarium, heat, mouse, thermometer etc |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 11:42:20 Either way a wordsearch and crossword are very quick to create. Anything to keep them occupied :-) |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 11:37:45 It's a relatively small class though (about 25 kids) so waiting shouldn't be too long. I guess I might take your advice after all and add a wordsearch as well :D |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 11:27:14 Ah.. Crossword it is then!
My high school did something very similar showing us snakes and spiders etc but it wad very hard to get involved asyou wad always waiting for your turn.
Maybe also take a laptop with a slideshow of other reptile photos? The school may have a projector for ir? |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 11:21:48 I had a word search for a much younger class last time, and they solved it in minutes, so I was looking for something a bit more difficult ^^ |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 11:17:34 Oh yeah haha.
Maybe you could do two quizzes so they have something different? Or rather than a crossword maybe a wordsearch instead? I Dont know many kids that do crosswords:-( |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 11:05:58 True/false questions or things with pictures might be difficult in a crossword ;). Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone! :D |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 10:33:01 You could do a few simple corn colours like have three pictures of maybe an normal, amel and anery and have to label which is which? Obviously when your talking to the children you'll have to give them the answers in your presentation. |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 10:12:05 A snake is born from an *** (egg) A baby snake is called a ********* (hatchling) You could also throw in some true or false questions like do snakes have ears, is a corn snake venomous? |
