Posted - 10/05/2012 : 22:23:56 ok, i was going to let him finish his shed and then feed him. But i shall help him along with that and then hopefully the stat will be here and i shall be all running again and he shall be fed! |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 22:19:10 sorry lost the post. yup off is better than on. do not feed until you have the stat sorted |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 22:12:04 ok thanks :) well hopefully i should have my stuff in a couple or days or so, then i can get the heat mat hooked up to the stat and have a digi thermo!! |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 22:09:19 Cold is safer than too hot :) As long as it's over 48hrs since feeding then he won't need the heat to aid digestion so will be fine for a day or 2 :) |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:59:48 ahh i see, so how long shall i turn it off for? wouldnt he get too cold? |
Georgina |
Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:57:35 because if your air temp is 26 then your mat temp will be over 30 which is dangerous

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:56:21 well he was fed on monday night and i believe thats when he started to shed but only noticed it on tuesday morning, he has done two poo's since then aswell and took the pinkie fine even though he seems to be a shy eater! why would i need to turn the mat off? |
Georgina |
Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:54:01 if you have fed in the last 3 days. i would turn your mat off. |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:48:50 if the air temp is 26 on a dial therm.........then the mat temps is a lot hotter, do you have a digital therm aswel? |
Cazzy |
Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:46:48 yeah, it seems like it! the humidity is with the thermometre but it isnt a digital one so it could be wrong :/ its at the hot end as thats where i placed it and the temp is 26 degrees celius so it isnt too hot... |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:43:05 is it defo shed? thats sound a bit high for normal humidity? |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:39:17 thanks! i shall try it! he is rather grumpy and doesnt seem to like being picked up atm. well atm my humidity is 60/70% and the only reason i knew he was starting to shed was becaus his scales went all flakey but his eyes never clouded over or anything! |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:36:01 no need to, put it in the warm hide x |

Posted - 10/05/2012 : 21:35:59 Because its been flaking for a few days you might want to take a more direct approach, help the little guy out. You can get a pillow case, moisten it in warm water, wring it out, stick the snake in there, tie in shut so it doesn't escape and leave it 20 minutes in a tub so you dont wet the carpet, let him have a good wriggle about, this should soften the skin, get the snake out and let it run through a towel and apply gentle pressure so the gap its going through is a bit tight and the skin should pop off and you'll have one relieved snake.
In future you can increase humidity when he goes blue and keep it up until he sheds but I'm sure your snakes a bit uncomfortable right now and grumpy.
