Have had problems in the past with bugs in Aubiose. Bought a large bale of it from an Equuine store and discovered bugs in it and my vivs. I thought they were springtails but having searched and searched I have come to the conclusion they were possibly a type of weevil. I use kitchen towel at the moment which is driving me up the wall. Every morning its all pushed up in the air and caught on plants/wires etc as my snakes like to burrow. SO Can Aubiose me heated in the oven to make sure there are no weevils or alike? |

Weevels start life as kinda looking like whitish maggots and then turn into hard/dark bettles I think. There are so many different types of bugs that will munch on wood it's kinda hard to ID without having a really good picture and taking it to a bug swat. The ones in mine where all white and round so either super young springtails with no adults or something different but still harmless. Long as your vivs are sealed so the chipboard doesn't get damp I'm sure it will be fine :) They are obviously after moisture so go to the water bowl where they kind of lay their eggs or drown or something. I just use my apsen like normal, I'd love to know if the eggs are in the bale when I get it though and hatch out on my garage/viv or if they are invaiding the bale from my garage.

We've had weevils break into our bedding (human bedding that is!) they are dark beetles and very hard. You could just keep changing the water every day if yiu notice some that kills them quickly. |

When my OH does Cornelius's substrate he puts bit of water with it so it doesn't ignite, in microwave. We use bark & aspen.
Can't see why u couldn't put it in oven with some water. |

Think it would take days to bake enough in a microwave, need enough for 6 vivs. |

Would a low temp for longer, say one hour, be better than a high temp for a short time? Dont want to cause a fire in the oven, hubby would go mad! |

Not sure, would think it might start to go singe (spelling) as it is such small pieces.
I would try a small amount first and keep a good eye on it to ensure it doesnt ignite.
The other possibility is in the microwave with a small glass of water in there too. |
