Hoggies are really easy snakes to care for in my opinion. They're small, so won't need heaps of space. They like burrowing too, so maybe keep them on aspen or heaps of shredded newspaper. They're main defence isn't to bite, even though they do carry venom. They headbutt and hiss and mimic cobras. At first it's a little off putting, but then you suddenly realise that you are like 50 times taller and bigger and then you just scoop them up and they soon behave.

I'd recommend getting a baby, as it's fun to watch your snake grow. Plus it gives the snake a chance to get used to your smell as a comfort and as the source of it's food. I got mine as a late juvenile, and unfortunately he really dislikes handling, although I do make him go through ten minutes of it every other day. He's getting a little better as he's aging, but still has the biggest hissy fit whenever he spots me.

Christ! Check out A C Snakes, they don't have any hoggies available at the mo but they have approximate pricelists (sensible ones) and care sheets for house snakes and hoggies too.
I got my hoggie and my Olive house snake from them, they are great.

They are mildly venemous and its rare to get bitten by them as they are rear fanged. Although it has happened in cases. I let that put me off having one for a while.
So glad I saw sense though. Mines an absolute star, puts on a proper scary snake show, hissing and striking but its always with a closed mouth. when picked up she's a lovely little squidgy snake to handle.
