just been testing my new vivarium (3ft) and i've got a 17"x11" heatmat in there just to test the temperatures.. first of all i put it on with the thermostat but nothing really happened.. the viv was still only at 20 degrees at the warm end.. so i took it off the stat just to see if it would heat up, this was an hour ago now, its still sitting at 20 degrees.. how would i get this to warm up?

my bad, I didn't read your first post properly!
adamasrc Posted - 27/11/2011 : 22:51:06
will do, there's nothing in the viv at the moment, was just testing :)

until your digital thermometers arrive take the dial ones off the wall and use them directly on the mat - chances are the mat will be set too high if the stat is all the way up

thanks for your help!

aslong as u got one in in warm end thats the main one to monitor, as you cant do much about cool end anyway
adamasrc Posted - 27/11/2011 : 22:11:58
yeah, like i said i've just ordered one, i'll order the other soon :)
a33272 Posted - 27/11/2011 : 22:09:36
in simple terms bin them ones an get some with digital ones with probes
adamasrc Posted - 27/11/2011 : 22:07:05
ok, cheers guys
a33272 Posted - 27/11/2011 : 22:05:32
thats why there sayin the same then. a heatmat is a contact heater so it heats whats touching it. they have no effect on air temp which is what your measuring with them 'things' uve got stuck to ya viv
adamasrc Posted - 27/11/2011 : 22:03:23
half way up the back of the viv
a33272 Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:59:49
where are they stuck though
adamasrc Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:55:23
im just using the stick on ones at the moment.. literally just ordered some digital ones though. thought the stick on ones would read more than 20 degrees though, i dont know :P
a33272 Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:50:52
what thermometers are you using, sounds more like a placement issue to me
adamasrc Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:14:17
im not, i just put it on the highest setting for now to try and get it warmer
gmac Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:11:54
stat dials are useless, dont go by that setting its not accurate.
adamasrc Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:08:54
when i say warm, i can feel that its on, i'll try covering it up with some aspen but the stats set at 32 degrees at the moment
gmac Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:03:07
If you can feel it warm, i suggest you cover the mat with some aspen or whatever substrate you use as the probes will be picking up some ambient heat that will give you a better idea of the temps as im not convinced its really 20 deg if you can feel it warm.
adamasrc Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:00:53
yeah i can feel it, its on but not very warm. and i've got 2 thermometers 1 on each end, they both read 20 degrees
gmac Posted - 27/11/2011 : 21:00:00
is the mat working? and where you measuring the temps
