A basic guide to making a banner using the clone stamp tool

I’m using Adobe Photoshop elements but there are free programs such as Paint.net that are completely free to download and have the same capabilities

There are probably far better ways to do this but this is the only way I know how.

First things first

It helps if your pictures you want to use have the same or similar backgrounds and that your images are all the same size (so you wont have to fiddle guesstimating the correct sized tools to use later to get everything to match

Look across the top of your Photoshop window click on window scroll onto images and ensure that the option for tile or cascade is ticked (you can use either I find cascade easier)

Hovering over the icons on the menu in Photoshop will tell you what the tool is called

Create a new canvas make sure the canvas size is big enough to contain all your pictures I usually change the canvas size to double its default size (to change canvas size go to image along the top menu select resize then canvas size)

Select the colour you would like to use for your backdrop then use the paint bucket tool to fill the page with it

Now open your first image click on the image window to ensure you are working within that window

Now select the clone stamp tool (looks like a lil rubber stamp symbol) you can change the size of the capture area the opacity and various other settings (have a play and tinker a bit that’s what I did lol)

When you hover over the image you should see a circle (or whatever shape you selected to use for the target area to be captured) this will give you an idea of the size of the area covered obviously if you want to fit more in make the target area bigger

When you are happy with the size and have found the area you want to select hold down the alt button and then right click with the mouse the area is now selected

Now click back onto the border of the window that contains the backdrop you have made then click on the area you want to place your selected then right click on the mouse if you want to add more of the picture just hold down the right button and drag it around to copy the rest of the image that you sampled its as simple as that repeat the steps by opening each picture you want to use

Afterwards you will probably have to crop and resize the picture if you wanted to use it as a signature banner

Good luck!

Just made a new banner in Photoshop. You might have to CTRL+F5 to refresh if the old image is cached

I used to use Photoshop every day in my previous life as a graphic designer many moons ago, but even then I was barely scratching the surface with what it can do. Such a powerful program, and to be honest 90% of people won't need to know 90% of what it can do. Elements is a stripped down version for regular folk and is what I use now. But then I only really retouch photos these days. I've got a 'borrowed' version of full photoshop but it rarely gets used coz Elements does pretty much the same thing in an easier to understand way! lol

PS Simmy your banners do look really rather fab!

I agree with Ian (this is rare moment folks!!), Gimp is probably the closest thing I've found to a free photoshop-type program. With my husband being a professional photographer however, photoshop is a must have I'm afraid, so we had to bite the bullet and get it, although my laptop has Gimp, I think it would crash non stop if it had photoshop on there, hehe.

My signature banner was made in photoshop, but you could probably do it quite easily in Gimp. It's 4 seperate layers, one for the background (made with a gradient tool), a color layer for the background, the image of the snake (which is cut the background out using a layer mask and then feathered the edges to neat it out), and a layer for the font, which I added some stuff too such as outer glow, bevel and emboss, etc...

If you're going this route, please choose an image of your snake that's NOT flicking out his or her tongue. Masking around this area was not fun. Unless you're one of those types of people that enjoys smashing their head onto the keyboard while yelling "YES! It feels good!" It's not for the faint of heart.

That is always what people say. That viruses don't exist in torrents. Trust me if I had £1 for everyone who said this to me as I am fixing their virus filled system then I would be a rich man. The last idiot I dealt with (this week) had downloaded a torrent for MS office 10 and was shocked with the viruses it brought with it.

He said: "why didn't my anti-virus do anything" He didn't understand that by clicking that he trusted the content he had told his anti virus not to do anything. Also NO ONE downloads porn any more Something magical has happened in the last 10 years called broadband which allows streaming. Lets not forget that there are pleanty of other things such as worms and trojans also spyware which you may not even know is there.
