Posted - 28/07/2011 : 18:04:48 I actually bought a spider catcher a couple of years back, really don't know how I coped without it! Went my first rep show last weekend, and there were 100's of spiders for sale. The weird thing is the smaller the tarantula was,the more freaky it looked! A seller got a large black thing out (not sure what it was) to show how calm other species could be. He turned it upside down and stroked its underneath bits, including is fangs and it was really chilled out. Then he turned it the right way round and OMG it was fast....not as fast as me though when i jumped back lol!! |

Posted - 28/07/2011 : 10:20:51 Ha ha, i do that when i see one in my living room. I usually tell my wife to just keep looking at me until i have dealt with it. Usually catch it in a glass and throw it out. |

Posted - 28/07/2011 : 01:49:06 tarantula's arnt that bad, before my mum keeping them i was 100% scared of spiders and paranoid everytime the lid was off but now i aint that bad infact i have held a tarantula, got one of my own and live with mums 6 (sure there is 6, however i think my sig is right) but they are easy to care for as long as you know what you are doing with them and you research that species, chilliens are great first spider and normaly ok to handle (as long as you are very careful etc) and they are pretty aswell.
however when a big black scary spider scurrys across the carpet im then on the ceiling and cobwebs freak me out a lil when walking into them... |

Posted - 28/07/2011 : 00:45:03 They are very delicate at that size, I have only handled her a couple of times and then its a case of what she wants to do she does, my main worry is her suddenly legging it (plenty of them to do that) but shes very calm and steady. |

Posted - 28/07/2011 : 00:39:25 Id be worried about her being so small and delicate too, id be much more confident with an adult |

Posted - 27/07/2011 : 10:27:01 Has it got you over your fear though? I've held a chilean rose on a few occasions but I'm still a major wuss with the spiders at home. Even scared of dead ones and spider webs! |

Posted - 27/07/2011 : 09:30:55 Nothing wrong with rubber ones. We hate real spiders yet have some plastic furry purple ones and a glow in the dark rubber one decorating our house. It would be cheap to keep too, you only have the cost of the fake spider. |

just had a thought ...he is so in to bugs i could just buy him some crickets, mealworms or hoppers from pets at home and say..there you go...new pet lol. My 2 whizz round looking at all the furries but spend ages watching the creepie crawlies. I have strange children!!!!!!!
EDIT; just passed that idea by him and he was well up for keeping crickets as pets haha. cheap birthday pressie...that should buy me a few more years tarantula less |
