Our Rhode Island Red chook of eight years was PTS last night, she was verly poorly and hobbling so it was the best thing for her.
She was such a character, incredibly nosey and loved being pick up for cuddles and being fussed over.. Unlike out other skittish girl.
RIP Miss P

Fly free Mrs P. Chickens are wonderful and it sounds like she lived a wonderful life with you. Hope her companion copes without her.

sorry to hear that, sometimes we have to make these choices for the best although they are never easy choices to make xx

Thank you, folks.
Keep having a bit of a wibble, eight years is a lot of love spent on them! It was all for the best though.

Run free little hen!
Karakal Posted - 26/06/2011 : 09:38:34
Thank you both.
I will admit, when we went down to the vet with her I was resigned and steeled that he was going to put her to sleep but I still cried a little when he actually said it! Yes though, it is all part and parcel of owning animals, with the happy days there eventually comes the sad and I am glad that we made it a kinder passing for her in the end!

oh a sad day for you too :-( just explained to my little lad that having animals is wonderful but we do have to be prepared for the sad days - just as long as we do the best we can for them. have to say Miss P looked one happy chicken :-)
