My son told me tonight that they saw a snake in school today. After plenty of questioning it seems to have been seen outside the school sports hall and disappeared under the door into the boiler room. From his description I am guessing that it was a grass snake probably a couple of foot long.
My question is what do you think should be done about it? Obviously the chance of a snake going into the school sports hall has the potential to cause panic amongst the kids and possibly result in the poor thing getting injured. We could search for it and if we find it relocate it in a nearby field. Or just leave it be and hope it finds it's own way back out again. |

Well I have never seen adders wander into schools, I have seen them in the heavily forrested areas and clearings of the Scottish Highlands however had to walk a good bit and that is their habitat, not areas with human population, even if it may well be near the countryside. Google Adders and you will find loads of info on their habitat. While it is true adders do live in this country, I find it hard to believe one found its way into a school. |

maybe so but that may not be cause to rule them totally out of the equation, maybe something in this particular snake confused it and it was just seen there, ok, a very very low posibility but these are still an animal that lives in our country, and you dont know that it is a heavily populated area, maybe it is on the edge of the grounds which lead into vast countryside

because you don't find adders that close to populated areas, where as grass snakes and slow worms you will, plus adders are an endangered species (i think) and there numbers, in certain parts of the country, are low. The numbers of grass snakes and slow worms in the wild are a lot higher |

Iv only seen an injured baby before and this one does sound bigger. One of the kids aparently said it was a king snake, Iv already told me son to tell the teacher if it does turn out to be a king then i want first option to have it lol |

Im no expert, but maybe a look wouldnt hurt,preferably some one used to snakes, its prob very well hidden anyway, like you said, if someone else finds it, they might freak and kill the poor thing. |
