Posted - 04/05/2011 : 08:34:21 I've got both habistat and microclimate, that matstat and ministat both fluctuate by the same couple of degrees, and as expected the habistat and the microclimate pulse stats keep the temperature the same with very little fluctuation, all the boys and girls eat, defacate, and shed as the should, and move from warm to cool and back as they like so as the saying goes 'Job done' |

That really is good performance, the Habistat ones i have used (not pulse ones) typically fluctuate by about 3ish degrees between the off and on cycles.

Agreed, that is very good for a mat stat. I have 3 of theses and each will hold around 27-30c |

Posted - 03/05/2011 : 21:19:25 i have a microclimate pulse running my day gecko incubator and it maintains 27*C +/-0.1*C you've got to admit that's pretty damn accurate!
on/off stats tend to vary a lot by design, and add a snake moving around into the mix too....all it takes is a cold snake moving to the warm end, sitting on either the therm probe, stat probe or both and it sends the equipment incorrect signals, with the therm reading lower than it is, the stat thinking the temp is lower than it is so putting the mat on flat out which isn't registering accurately cos the snake's sat on the damn probes.....lmfao you can tie yourself up in knots and lose a lot of sleep over nothing! |

Posted - 03/05/2011 : 21:18:35 here we go again....!
All mine are microclimate pulse, I find them more reliable than habistat. And its no big deal to use a little screwdriver to adjust it, much better than being knocked accidentally or turned by curious little fingers. |

... well when I see readings of 32 I do feel like turning it down. But then when I check 5 minutes later and it says 26 I know I can't really, otherwise it'll probably drop even lower!!
Flicking between those extremes gives an AVERAGE 29 I suppose, so hopefully it's not causing them problems. But I will definitely swap it out for a Habistat before too much longer. |

I know what you mean the Microclimate could be equally if not better made than tha Habistat but the overall styling looks cheap. They both have a 5 year guarantee i know that. Is there anyone with specialised knowledge on this site who has looked at the internals of both thermostats and can shed any light on the build quality of both stats.
Kindest regards

Rumour has it they were once the same company but spilt. How true it is I do not know. |

Posted - 03/05/2011 : 21:03:29 I've got one of each running right now and Habistat wins by a mile for me. I got another one for my gf and there's a 3rd one hopefully tomorrow courtesy of the great Surrey Pet Supplies. £19 from there. £35 from my local stockist!!!
Anyway, like I said for me it'll be stats all the way from now on. I've just found them to be SO much more reliable at keeping a steady temp. It fluctuates between 27-30 across 24 hours, which is still more than I'd like, but my microclimate flips constantly up and down from 26 to 32 and shows a different reading every minute of the day! I've had it running rubs and my partitioned viv and used different thermometers, but it's always the same. I checked it when I started this reply and it said 28.6. I just been to check it again 2 minutes later and it's showing 32.1! When I've finished spending so much money on everything else I'll be replacing it with a Habistat and keep it for emergencies only.
Glad the rest of you out there don't seem to be having the same bother!

Posted - 03/05/2011 : 21:00:18 we use both in a variety of guises....on/offs, pulses and dimmers. performance-wise the different brands of the same type of stat are all pretty much the same, i just don't like on/off stats, except my Aqua-line which was fab for maintaining temps and as for twin-stats....what a waste of time!! |

But are they both mat stats or is one a pulse stat?
A pulse stat will always keep temps more steady. |

Never used Microclimate, party as the knob turning thing looked like I needed a screwdriver to turn on the pictures D: So I have Habistat pulses.
They market this as a safety feature and say it prevents accidental knocking of the knob and alteration of the temperature, it makes sense i suppose when you think about it but it is not as handy to change.
