I made a 100 mile round trip yesterday JUST to visit this shop! lol

Yeah, I know I'm mad. But I'm signed off work for a little while and had nothing major to do, so...

And as it seems to be THE cheapest place to get bits I thought I'd go and see it for myself.

And it is a great shop! LOADS of reptile related bits and bobs and all so cheap compared to everywhere else I've been. And not just reptile. They do cats and dogs and a few birds and small animals too. It really is a cracking shop (with a good sized warehouse at the back!). And no, I'm not on commission or anything! Just impressed is all.

I didn't get technical with any of the staff so can't say what they are like advice wise, but the owner was there and I was chatting to him for about 10 minutes and he appears to be pretty knowledgeable. They are in the process of building a sort of 'reptile house' when you enter the shop and have got a dozen or more vivs containing various snakes, lizards and other species.

As most people know, SPS are already very cheap, but the owner told me he's got plans to make items even cheaper for those shopping in-store! He wants to encourage personal visits as then customers are likely to buy other things they didn't particularly set out for, unlike online when you generally just stick to your shopping list. And he could be right, coz the things on my shopping list came to about £95, but I ended up spending over £120! lol

He also said he's been getting a lot of grief from other pet shops complaining about the low prices. But like he said it's up to them what they charge, and if they took the risk by fronting large sums of cash for bulk orders like he does, they would be able to charge less too!

Anyway, this wasn't meant to be an essay. I just wanted to big up a brilliant reptile shop.

They're just bulk buying cheap and piling it high. There are plenty of businesses been doing that for years. But like I say I'm not interested in arguing about it. You know I'm a fan of your efforts in getting your business off the ground and really hope it works out for you mate. As I said, my order from you was posted today so I'm looking forward to getting my grubby mitts on my new bits soon.

to be honest i think that suppliers have moved foreward, i have negotiated good deals with good wholesalers, even though i am internet only and would used to have been considered to be wrecking the industry, there is a kind of pact in the industry that no1 can charge stupidly low prices, and many suppliers will not stand for it
Diesel1994 Posted - 31/08/2011 : 23:44:04
its fine ptm :) all i am going to say is they are wrecking the industry by laying MASSIVE amounts of money on the line that no1 else can afford, and making absolutely no profit, meaning that realisticly they cannot keep going as a long term business, but whilst they are around they are depriving other shops of customers, along with being in a recession many pet shops are going bust. Many suppliers refuse to sell to them for this reason

A resurrected thread! lol

Tbh I don't get how being the cheapest supplier is wrecking the industry, but I really can't be bothered to argue it.

On a side note Mr Diesel sir, I had an email saying my order with you has been dispatched today! Thank you very much!

defo great value there, gutted that they stopped selling aquarium stuff and fish food etc tho, i only bought some stuff last week and was gonna to get some fishy treats as well as stuff for the snakes to find they took the section off, they said they want to specialise in the reptile side of it rather than trying to do everything, bugger they had some fish bargains!!

To those who have been to the actual shop, do they sell fish stuff in-store still? might mosey up one day this week for fun :)

not meaning to put a negative edge on your post, but as to other pet shops, i will not go into it too much its a very complicated story but alot of people will agree that SPS are wrecking the industry, e-mail me on info@renzaexotics.co.uk and i will happily have a chat with you about it, but i refuse to slander any other business on any forums, but as i said i will happily discuss it with you via e-mail :)

i made a 50 mile round trip to sps today and i was blown away by the store. MASSIVE stock, i got exactly what was on my list and was served by polite, helpful staff. oh, and i saved a packet! most important, the vivariums containing livestock were immaculate and the reptiles in them (not sure if they were for sale?) looked to be in tip top, healthy conditition.

yeah i put a good word in on the links thread i went there a month or so ago an was very impressed, unlike most shops that only stock what people always ask for they stock a much wider range of products, i mean look at there floresent tube display is about 5 metres long not just a few tubes like most places. i agree drawign people in will do better i went with intention of just a dual lamp an came away with alot more. just a shame there so far away an i only visted as i was that way for the day

I'd love to visit the shop! Their prices are amazing - I can imagine its a bit like the Ikea for reptiles, you go there with a shopping list but spot so many special offers you spend way too much :)
