Why bother with all the hassle when you can get some really good artificial plants that look real. Plus I really can't imagine a live plant surviving for long with a snake constantly squashing it. |

This says it all in my case too. Though I'm currently plannin/building a GTP vivarium which will be kitted out with real plants to keep the HUUUUUUGE humidity required. |

Posted - 22/02/2011 : 18:58:17 Fake. Weather real or fake they all get pooped on the same, just fake ones take to being washed better. Silk, Got some plastic ones don't like as much neither do the snakes. Also, I hate exo terra plants. |

Posted - 22/02/2011 : 14:43:57 i think most live plants r drip fed water for humidity to stay the same, but dont hold me out on that 1 |

If you have real ones in a corn snakes viv how would you water them without increasing the humidity to risky levels?
I didn't even know people used real plants in corn snake vivs, I thought they were more for frog setups? |

Posted - 22/02/2011 : 13:34:15 I use fake plants as well, much easier to keep clean and no risk of any bugs getting into the viv either. Plants don't often grow well in sterilised soil.
If you want to see how yours get on, just do a search for 'grass' and you should see some posts from a couple years ago where grass was grown on sterile soil, however it only stayed for about 5 days before it got wrecked. |

Posted - 22/02/2011 : 12:55:11 fake all the way lol silk or plastic, easy to clean when they poop over um and anyway, anything green with me tends to die unless its my alo vera plant in the bathroom lol |

Posted - 22/02/2011 : 11:40:03 For me I think its too impractical, especially when a snake is very likely to squash it and rip it up. I wouldn't worry too much about health issues as long as a suitable plant and suitable soil were chosen, but then you have to consider bugs living in it and having to account for its position when setting up heating. Also some plants will need UV that people tend not to bother with for snakes, and the plant will inevitably mean extra maintenance.
I would use it for 'phibs and some lizards for a nice looking viv, but not for the vast majority of snakes.
