ive never known anyone to have a problem with there corn having complications just using a mat yet. we do have people that use bulbs but thats it they either use bulbs or mats to heat not a combination. as i said though if it works for you it works

i understand that but if they dont have the right heat then there imune system will shut down and they wont digest their food and more complications will come after that, but if you find a heat source that works then keep to it i suppose

i just cant see ya logic of having a mat on 24/7. then a i/r bulb on 2 hours morning an night aswell as a white light daytime. your ambiant temps must be up an down everytime u put i/r on

ok...wasn't insulting your inteligence by any means.
my temp dont go up and down as the white bulb is a 60w and turns off at 10pm and then the 50w i/r lights come on just after the white ones turn off. so the temp doesnt drop exstremly but gives the effect of night and day with like 5 degrees of a drop.
and they are all on stats with timers and with digital thermometers showing the temp so its working for me

but you would get all that with out the need for the i/r an white light just from opening your curtains in the daytime. my viv ambiant temp rises slightly in the daytime anyway just from the rise in surounding air temperature an thats not from my house heating either as my heating is never above 16oC. i apreciate your theory but your method seams extreme. but if it works then cool

well i wouldnt..cuz the heat wouldnt be sufficient enough to get to the right temp the snakes need..
i live in northern ireland and my room is based above a garage so its constantly cold in my room. the sun is never warm so i wouldnt be abke to get the right temp. so using the white and i/r bulbs is the only way of getting the right heat.

i use a heat mat on all the time too but that doesnt effect the air temp...it effects the area of the floor on which the snake lays...
but from 12pm to 8pm gives him 8 hours dark which is normal...and reptiles cant tell the i/r is on because the heat is an infered sourse of heat...so gives of no light so to the snake it is dark..so in reality he gets the light on for 12 hours and darkness for 12 hours

and at night its roughly 70-75 f

i have my viv set up with an infered from 8am til 10am and then white from 10am til 10pm and then infered back on at 10pm til 12pm.
this gives me the perfect temp through out the day and a nice little drop oer night.

they dont really have any light requirements, mine get what ever the seasonal daylight hours are through the window, the lights i have in my vivs are mainly used for maintainance purposes
