it has come to my concern that us, as corn snake keepers are not doing our research properly .
this is not good enough to think we are all keeping highly venomous snakes!! if you get bitten by one of these snakes you will be dead in minutes,.. i belive the max you have is 30mins unless you have a anti venom which of course you need to make sure the hospital have in stock ( so i do hope you all have).
you will need to let your local firestation know to make sure they know they are moving dangerous animals.

if you have a red/white corn snake you are most at risk... they are super quick and bite most deadly so beware.

for us that have already been bitten we are just lucky to be alive.. but dont take the risk again...

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Is a corn snake bite like some drugs? You don't get the effect at the time, but years later your skin suddenly starts necrosing and your hands/ears/nose fall off?

So do yorkshire women

Do they have the building blocks for venom, YES. Venomous, NO! Its more complex than just in their saliva (not worded the best). I'm sure that there is an article out in the WWW that can explain it fully I'll have a hunt for it and post it.

Are you also aware that Bearded Dragons carry a toxin that is nearly the same as rattlesnake venom??
From recollection, so do Iguanas.
Sta~ple Posted - 12/02/2011 : 17:58:50
So.. they are actually venomnous ever so slightly or is it baceteria x.x
lotabob Posted - 12/02/2011 : 17:42:57
I could nerd it up and say how the toxins in venom is present in ALL snake saliva. Its only the delivery method and concentration that makes a venomous snake 'venomous'. But that would definitely mean I would have to wear jam jar glasses and tweed jacket for the rest of the day.

Though I do find it amazing how many people ask 'are they poisonous?' and I have to gun them down and tell them that I would never eat them, they get very confused.

Are boas also secretly venemous? Rocky's due to be fed tonight aswell and i've kind of wondered what a bite off him would be like for a while. A strange part off me has been tempted to put my hand in his feeding tank and close my eyes, i must say. Does that make me strange?
