Posted - 06/02/2011 : 12:27:48 Just an observation but I see three slight errors.
Heat pits on a corn snake? NO
Dislocate their jaws? NO
And the snake actually swallows a piece of substrate in the video. |

Posted - 08/02/2011 : 14:16:44 Is it that the prey item must be no bigger than 1.5 times the size of the head ,cause i allways thought it was the fattest part of the body.. prob totally wrong. |

Posted - 08/02/2011 : 08:21:06 Not Sure Kehhlyr unless you're talking about Thermogenesis, it's been known for sometime that brooding females of certain species can basicly shiver and raise their body temp to almost 9 degrees above ambient, but there is research going on into a theory that snakes also seem to be able to use thermogenesis when digesting their food, but only being able to raise temp by a couple of degrees above ambient. |

Posted - 07/02/2011 : 23:37:09 You could be onto something there, I heard someone saying that the squeezing doesn't suffocate them the pressure actually stops the heart. I don't know how true that is (though the end result will no doubt be the same) as they do squeeze tighter as the animal breathe out which would suggest suffocation. |

Posted - 07/02/2011 : 23:31:11 surely not the reference to suffocation? |

Posted - 07/02/2011 : 23:09:31 I've still not got any issues with the vid itself. I still use the phrasing dislocate simply because it's easier to explain than elastic bands holding the bottom jaw in the right place. I shall have to re-watch it again, I thought he said thermal receptors, not thermal pits.
Anyone figured out what the other thing is I'm refering to yet??
CLUE = Something to do with the eating
Or does no one get the bonus points??? |

Posted - 07/02/2011 : 22:33:58 their jaws don't dislocate, because the bottom jaw is only attached to the top jaw by ligaments that stretch |

Posted - 07/02/2011 : 21:01:34 My mistake, he says thermal pits. They don't have them either. They do have heat receptors but they are no good for hunting, just thermal regulation.
If you want to pick out all the errors though towards the end he also says they increase their body temperature to ingest food. I don't even need to go into why thats wrong.
As for K's trivia question, I don't know, but will be interesting to see if anyone gets it. |

Posted - 07/02/2011 : 13:58:50 Scientific is one, but that has been just ignored due to the change in the scientific name. It's something else....
Something actually quite hard, yet also so very obvious.. |

/ninja edit
Heat pits and heat receptors are 2 different things. Plus corns can dislocate if necessary.
Bonus points go to anyone that is aware of the bit of info on there that is under dispute by many, but is not very well known.
