Posted - 12/01/2011 : 09:43:02 Was over on RFUK yesterday, and spotted a classifieds ad from a well respected corn breeder in Glasgow. The advert was for normals, sold in pairs, each with 5 hets- 2 pattern and 3 colour- but the seller isn't saying what they are.
My curiosity got the better of me, so I mailed the seller and asked what to expect. Apparently both parents are "silver", and I can expect "silver" babies in different shades and patterns, including, if odds/luck are on my side, the possibility of a new morph.
Anyway, they are stunning "normals" with very intense colours, and the seller seems genuine and legit, and I'm curious, so I've got a pair arriving on friday afternoon! The female has nice banding and a red belly, the male more of a stereotypical normal but still gorgeous.
If the seller is to be believed, the hets alone are worth much more than what she is asking, but I'm more than happy to pay what I have for normals of that quality anyway.
Excited! But impatient now lol!
Feel free to guess as to what the hets could be, but we'll all be waiting a while before we can find out ha ha |

Both have pretty red bellies actually but the female more so, as well as nice banding and a very clean pattern. Hopefully getting a new card later for the other camera so will try and post pics up asap. |

Hi I don't want to put the fear of god up you but did you read his full post??? one of his boas passed away with I.B.D if I were you I wouldn't even go near the house never mind buy a snake from him I know he said he has had them in quarantine but there's always a risk he hasn't washed his hands properly or changed his clothes etc as its that easy to pass on so you could loose your full collection as corns don't show it like say royal pythons etc....all I'm saying is be very careful and good luck....and by the way in my opinion they look like banded normals with het blood.
Of course I read the full post, and I am fully aware the seller had IBD in their collection- 2 years ago. I remember reading the thread they wrote when it was first diagnosed. Since then the seller has not bought or sold any animals, plus they have had various randomly selected animals confirmed clear of the disease. The case is believed to have been restricted to the one Corn island boa that died.
They have assured me that these corns have been hatched and raised quarantined from all other snakes.
It is a risk to buy snakes from any seller, as nasties are always a possibility, but I have complete faith in the seller that they have done everything in their power to contain the reported IBD case and carry out strict hygiene methods for the past 2 years.
The snakes will be quarantined totally separately from the rest of my collection- as all new arrivals are. However, these will be undergoing a minimum of 6 months quarantine rather than 3.
Corns also cannot contract the disease, only carry it, unlike pythons and boids- so I cannot lose my whole collection, only 3 if the worst were to happen. Which is highly unlikely.

As for the IBD it was over 2 years ago! Not sure how long it can stay around after but what i have read (very little really) they dont think cornsnakes are carriers but could be carriers on mites!
I think they have probably done a lot more research on this then we have and they have waited two years intill selling! Probably really did they homework in this time! If they were just in it for the money surely they would just sell under another username?
I thought they seemed really geniune as they admitted it and waited two years with strick quarintine!
Maybe worth asking them a little more sexybear about the quarintine and tell them your fears for your collection! |
