i'm saving up to get myself a moped for when i'm 16 in May so that i dont have to catch another stupid bus anywhere but my mother thinks that they are dangerous but i told her that they are only dangerous when theres an idiot ride one haha
so i was wondering if you lot think that they are dangerous or not? (please say not ;P) hahaa but i'm still getting one anyway to prove to my mum that i will be a sensible rider xx |

Posted - 24/09/2010 : 20:39:52 The speed bumps?? I suppose that me saying that depending on where I am also depends on if I go over them properly or if I use them as a take off ramp for a little jump..... My Amy is deciding at the moment whether she wants a 'ped or a car, her boyf likes his bikes and so do I, her mum thinks bikes are dangerous as well but is not winning. As we speak she's in the garden having a play on the bike trying to get used to the clutch before requesting her CBT.
Bikes FTW, there's nothing like Poole Quay on a tuesday night. |

Posted - 24/09/2010 : 18:42:24 yeah, drain covers are the evil on the road, lethal when wet!
White lines too, if you go over a drain cover or white lines, make sure you are upright, otherwise you will be very horizonal. |

Posted - 24/09/2010 : 10:29:34 everything is dangerous in life, if you want to live forever, go lock yourself in a padded room. yes lots of people die on bikes, and lots of people have nasty accidents, however, did you know that something like 80 or 90% of bike accidents are caused by car drivers driving dangerously? You are putting yourself at risk with whatever you are doing, crossing the road, thats one of the most dangerous thing you can do, driving cars is not safe, just because you have more protection around you, which incidentally, is why you spend a lot of money on protective gear for on the bike.
You have to make your own choices, and accept that you are taking the risk that something may happen. Live you life how you see fit, and as long as its with the boundaries of the law, have fun!! (a little outside those boundaries can also be fun, but i wouldnt condone that!!! lol) |

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 22:59:27 ive had bikes for years and have fell off loads they are more dangerous than cars and very expensive when something gose wrong might be cheap tax and petrol but when they break be prepared for a shock plus they are easier to steel i have had two taken from me which then puts the insurance up even tho its not your fault but i still got one i hate cars but im clostraphobic remember its your choice no one else like anything do some research tho dont just get one cause u dont like the bus |

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 21:40:08 I agree with everyone, mopeds, motorbikes and even cars are a huge risk. You may be doing everything perfectly but you can never control the other people on the road. But that said, you've got as much chance being hit by a drunk driver or someone driving whilst on the phone, when your walking down the street! If you didn't take risks in life you'd never get anything done! As long as you've learnt everything properly and your a sensible driver, what more can you do??! Just my opinion! |

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 21:22:23 If you ride sensibly, within the speed limit, and don't overtake like all those other idiots, and you're aware of your surroundings, then at least learn for 6 months to a year (however long it takes to learn lol) and go from there. |

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 21:04:26 Ask any A&E doctor and they will tell you that motor bike accidents make up a very high percentage of their work. Sorry, I'm with your Mum on this one. Be pleased she loves you enough to say no!! |

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 20:31:30 well my brother fell off his chopper style bike because it was rainy and there was a bus driver who was driving stupidly so he tried to brake and his bike slipped on the road.. it was quite funny when he told me though just because of the fact of when he was getting back up, he was stood up straight but his feet were still sliding on the road haha :) (btw he didnt hurt himself just in case i get told off for laughing) xx |

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 20:27:13 you cant pressure some into doin 1 thing or another its not fair on the person involved as we all know in life you make your own decisions and thats how you find yourself |

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 20:22:19 I would beg you right now not to get one I've had 6 friends , yes 6 , and im not exaggerating to scare you, who have been knocked off of mopeds/scooters. Like many others say, its the other idiots driving who make them unsafe.

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 20:12:51 I have another bad thing to tell you, although it was on a bikermote which is quite different I jus remembered when I was talking to mum about it now that someone I was friends with when I was like 5, her dad was killed going round an island and he had be riding like 20 years and was careful but he just happened to be in an unlucky place. I think the only problem is that you have no cover on any kind of bike, whereas in a car you have it surrounnding you and although this sometimes causes the problem its usually what makes it safer. I dont really like them but Im a worrier so I dont like anything that seems risky. :P Tiffany-x |

Posted - 23/09/2010 : 20:06:05 iv'e had cars and bikes and their both as risky as each other jus cos you ride at right speeds doesnt mean ur less likely to get in accident its your awarness and driving capability overall but even with all this in consideration it only takes 1 unlucky moment but when all said and done thats life really isnt it.just explain to her it will give you more freedom and more flexability with work/scool/college and that its a step you want to make in your life for your own genuine reasons and im sure she'll understand mate let me know |
