hi ive had my new snake 4 weeks now and seems to come out of his hide in the middle of the night when no-ones around, because the water level in his bowl had gone down quite alot. But he never comes out when im around, although he pokes his head out a bit. I came home at about 8 at night it was dark and i turned the light on and there he was lying in the middle of his tank, and after 20 or so second he dissapeared again back into his hide. I cant wait to handle him but he never seems to come out of his hide when its light of theres anyone around

dont forget pet shops sometimes have to tell customers set rules ,it makes their buisness run smoother with set guidlines but with any animal they are individuals same as you or me

Thanks for the advice The Pet Shop told me to leave handling him until he came out and not to lift his hide! I think if I listened to the Pet Shop I would never be able to handle him!

If I waited til Izzy and Alice came out of hiding to handle them I would never manage it. They always hide although sometimes I catch Alice sticking his head up out of the aspen at the back of the viv. Carmellia and Peanut are a different kettle of fish altogether. They are always out and about in their fauns.

Don't worry. This is quite normal. In the wild snakes would rather hide than be exposed to possible dangers. Your snake is just doing what comes nturally. You can still handle him, you just need to lift up the hide and scoop him into your hands. He will gradually get used to be handled, although he may never come out during the day.
