Last year was a washout, I was hoping this year might pick up a bit.
This is the whole reason I bred for colours, hets, normal looking babies just don't sell so much now.
For the price of a pretty colour, like a butter, its almost not worth buying a normal.
The internet has changed the buyers market, with forums and breeders so easily accessible, for the price you would pay for a normal in a shop, say 35 quid, you can pick up hypos, ghosts, aneries, snows, etc ........
Sometimes, you can get 2 for what you would pay for one normal!!

As much as I hate to say it, corns are very much veiwed as a beginner snake, an entry level, and as such, few tend to stay in that market, and unless you can afford to import the latest morph, and breed something very different, then a lot of 'entry' level morphs remain unsold.

That is in no way meant as any kind of slur, its just how it is.

Yup - sign of the times, fads and fashions and all that. It's good to know that, from reading on this forum, there are lots of devoted owners, and always will be, (and I for one would say it's hard to beat a smashing 'normal') but, the market is fickle ... my commiserations, Mike, glad I haven't chosen to breed, but do hope the babies get good homes eventually.

Seconded - when I started with corns last year I had a vague idea of breeding 'for fun' - reading on forums has convinced me it's not a good idea- especially when new morphs aren't selling - I just have basic models.

Fortunately they all seem to be girls! Women's commune ... right on, sisters!

So sorry to hear about your amel mummy mike.

Do you think it's a case of supply in general outweighing demand Mike? I know there are alot of ads on preloved for hatchlings and it has made me reconsider thoughts i had for having some babies the year after next from my butters. I would hate things to go the way of puppies where so many end up in rescue due to overbreeding.

It is sad, but sometimes it goes that way, she gave the eggs more than she had sparre, and it cost her, shame she didn't know that she didn't need to.

Its 60 babies now, they get watered every couple of days, either by me or kate, depending on my shifts, and fed once a week now.
Seeing as they are not selling, I won't feed so often, its too expensive otherwise.
At this rate, I will be lucky to break even on the food cost, I was hoping to actually make something this year!

Such is life!

Hi, Mike, very sorry to hear about your amel girl. That's awful!

How the hell do you keep on top of 50 babies :|
wow.
mikerichards Posted - 10/09/2010 : 19:37:01
I got 10 healthy anery motleys, and am now waiting for 2 leo eggs to hatch, and another 8 or 10 eggs from the amel!

Incidentally, the amel mother died this morning, sadly she never recovered from the second lot. She fed once, regurged, and refused to feed again after.

LOL You're priviliged, mate. I were born in a cigarette packet. And the roof leaked! And we had to walk ten mile to school with the Wakefield mistral blowing!

Boarding schools and moving beds into the lounge, and you'll be sorted.

See, I like your thinking, however, kate disagrees. Apparently I cannot have the lounge for snakes.
