Fair enough, however, as you have pointed out, ahs heaters are about 100 quid, a stat and mat 50 ish. An ahs heater is designed to raise the ambient temp in the viv, not create an area of warmth that a ratsnake would prefer.
Ahs are exceptionally good, but, they are not designed for what you are using it for, not only that, its probably way too powerful for a 3ft viv.
I have one I use in my incubator, its very good at creating a warm climate, but there are no basking hot spots.
I also use a pulse stat aswell as the built in stat, a built in stat failure would be catastrophic in the incubator!

hahaa good point ;) xx

u could always change to a mat and stat and use the fact its not being used to get a bigger snake ;) lol

ahh right okay then :) lol wish i went for a heat mat nd that now cuz the heater was well expensive thou :¦ it cost my brother something like 100quid! cuz apparently it was part of the viv's 'deal' or something hahaa =] xx
FiestaSTLou Posted - 26/08/2010 : 11:22:32
na hun pretty easy, stick it down, plug in into the stat, and ur done lol the theres a few wires but we use cable ties to tidy them up :)

ahh right :) i would have thought that heat mats and that would be so much fiddly then an AHS :) xx

Seems more fiddly if you ask me...

Was gna say to sounds like my mat and stat, lol, plug in the stat, plug in the heat mat to the stat, turn the dial and hey presto lol and obviously yeah put in the digi thermometer, cant see it being any more fidly, our set ups rather simple :)

no not that much consideringg the size of them :) it only takes like not even a tenth of it up nd Tangoo's viv has a length of 34inch lol :P xx

Surely the protector thing over the heater is just like a stat with a mat? I imagine those heaters can be just as unsafe.

I have only seen the heaters used for small lizards that need big vivs, big lizards and massive snakes. Basicly, vivs that are taller than they are long or in vivs that have a lot of depth to them as well as length. I unno how big they are but I would imagine they would take up a lot of space in a housing size good for a corn?

Oooooh
Thanks very much

Advanced Heating System.

It's basically a cermic heater built inside a little metal box with a pulse prop stat built into it as well.
I've seen them, but not used them myself. From what I've seen they seem to be better at increasing the ambient temperature in part of a viv.
Most certainly they seem to be used more in larger vivs, the ones I've seen them in are housing monitor lizards and other similarly large bodied lizards.

ahh ritee lmaoo :)

nd cuz basically its less technical nd less fiddly then gettingg a heat mat and stat cuz youu have to ake sure all that is safe nd at a good temperature..but wiv a AHS even tho it can be a tadd expensive, youu just have to fix it on the viv wall, plug it in nd turn the ii dial thing nd then your donee!! :D

oh and put a protector thing over it!! :P hahaaa xx
