I just had the RSPCA around here because some busybody coffin dodger has complained that i have 200 snakes and they stink!!!
I couldnt beleive it, cheeky ********.

Well, Mr RSPCA left slightly more educated than he arrived, he had great fun handling the leos and learning about the crested geckos!
Funnily enough, i had to tell him about the live feeding laws as he brought it up!! he was gonna tell me its illegal, but i proved him wrong!
All in all, he was more than happy with how my animals were kept, more than happy with conditions the snakes were in and all the animals for that matter!

I just cant believe that my neighbours are such s*ds, why bother???

I know that i didnt have to let him in, but i have nothing to hide, and even he learnt something new today!

Yes, I once actually phoned the council over the way my charming neighbours were ganging up on a young woman nearby. Didn't name any names but, funny, the guy seemed to know who I was talking about ... He said they get to know the 'serial time wasters' - his words.

Hope you don't get any more trouble and hope you track down the troublemaker.
mikerichards Posted - 20/08/2010 : 14:14:44
Just got off the phone to Keith, the reptile man at the rspca centre, he says I have nothing to worry about and the visit will just get ticked off as a time waster.
Am happy about that, just need to find the sh*t stirrer now.

I am not bothered by the guy turning up, he was doing his job.
I am annoyed at the person who phoned, the person who clearly has no understanding of what I do, how I treat the animals and exactly how they are kept.
Had someone seen me with one of the snakes swinging it round by its tail or hitting it or whatever, then fine, its justified, but that's not ever gonna happen, on the odd occasion I find one without water, immeadiately they get water, ( then I find out how long its been by how far the head is under the water!, believe me, a big boa can almost empty a large dog bowl of water in one go!
The only snake I have that is under fed is the one that's only just started to feed again after nearly a year, the one with a huge abcess in her mouth.

Question to knowledgable people, can I request a copy of the report??
I want to know what's being said.
elament Posted - 20/08/2010 : 13:23:37
Sad if you ask me that someone from the ROYAL society for the prevention of cruelty to animals walked into a scenario and ended up walking out more knowledgable that when he walked in. You would like to think that these days they would have sent out someone with a modicom of knowledge in the first place but it doesnt suprise me. I recently reported a stray cat that was in a terrible state and they did sod all about it coz it was a stray and I ended up rehoming it meself.
Mind you in some respects like in this case i spose they cant be expected to have enough resourses when busy bodies as in this case take up their time on bogus calls. That said i wouldnt donate to them as the money would just get swallowed up by burocrasy and red tape instead of where it should go...to the animals.

Well done Mike! Although you do realise that if who ever called them doesn't get their way the first time, they will ring and ring and pester the RSPCA to look round again, although it does get to the point where the RSCA ignores that person if they are calling lol
Mouse Posted - 20/08/2010 : 09:22:25
On the up side, they actually took notice, which doesn't seem to happen often. There are so many people who have anumals and mistreat them, and the RSPCA ignore it, that I'm kinda pleased they took it on board, and then the guy who turned up listened nicely and was happy to learn things.

(shuffles about on the fence)
Scarlett Posted - 19/08/2010 : 21:27:27
As long as the people who can take the animals away know that you're treating the animals well and giving them good lives, no one else should have a right to care.

Just keep doing what you're doing Mike, none of those ignorant, nosey people matter!
BurnedAtTheStake Posted - 19/08/2010 : 21:22:00
Yeah, types like that don't want compromises or discussions or solutions, they just want a grievance. Their problem.

Hoping you and Kate are chilling out and recovering.

All the best!

I will find out who it was, i have a feeling it was upstairs. every now and then i leave the blinds up on the rep room so sunlight gets in, and they have to walk straight past it to get to their front door.
The other 2 neighbours knew about the snakes from day one, neither of them particularly like them, but they have known for a year. Upstairs however, we rarely talk to, so i dont even know if they know we have snakes, although i have the big boa out a few times when the weather was hot.
I might tell upstairs that one has escaped, and see if i get a repeat visit!!
I also know the reptile man over at the rspca centre, having had some snakes and helped him out a few times, i will ask him if he knows anything about it!
I just wish people would have the spine to come speak to me, instead of trying to cause trouble!

I know i didnt have to let him in, but i didnt want to be obstructive about it, theres no point, i have nothing to hide!
Just as well i had done the rounds with the water jug!! lol
Saying that, all the boas are on old paper, which they have scrunched up, but they have mites, and there is no point giving them bedding as they just live in it and go mental!!!

Thing is, even if i wrote a letter to the neighbours saying i was gonna get a dwa, but they would all kick off about it!

B****er crocodiles - I'm going to invest in a man-eating anaconda one of these days!

It's just a pity that Mike's misfortune has given us all the pleasure of having a rant, though ...
Kehhlyr Posted - 19/08/2010 : 18:31:53
Request planning permission for a crocodilian shed in your back garden, the neighbour that reported you would SO enjoy reading the green sign placed outside your property in regards the planning permission. When he then goes to sign against the permission, then you'd know who it is.

Hey, it's so good to know I'm not the only one!

They are such hypocrites too - because they have all the faults they report other people for - but enough of that - you know, it is so good to let off steam - maybe we should form a group:

COOL PEOPLE AGAINST GNARLY NEIGHBOURS!!!!

Yaay!

ps, so sad that the gnarly types exist though!

Good job with the RSPCA Mike- don't know what I would've done in your situation.

Neighbours are a pain. I'd love some chickens, but just know I'd get blamed for every rat seen within a 200 mile radius

That’s so unbelievable, but seriously mike, well done, many others could not have remained so calm. (I know I’d have struggled)

I bet the chap was lovin learning all that new stuff, probably cant get on any courses for that info etc…and you have definitely helped future reps now that this chap knows a bit more about them for any other rep complaints.

It reminds me of the time when I took my second car out for a quick blast (other love is cars – vw’s) I hadn’t used it in months. The following day I had a visit by a dvla/vosa van who checked to see if I had tax in window, I wasn’t in but the missus told me after she could see the chap inside on the phone, probably checking up on mot/insurance etc……needless to say I had everything.

That was one of my busy body neighbours, they are all retired round by me with nothing better to fill their days with.

Hey, believe me, it's nothing to do with age - I'm 58 and one of the worst ones round here is 20 years younger than me - she reports you if you ***t! (Uh, sorry, mods!) Her crony is 18 years younger than me and the third c....charming lady is, I admit, older than me. As far as they're concerned I'm a rag-**sed pipe smoking weirdo. Frankly, I'm flattered.

Stay cool, and be thankful you're not one of the septic minds. I do - well, I TRY to!!
BurnedAtTheStake Posted - 19/08/2010 : 17:30:08
My opinion of the RSPCA is unprintable - I used to know someone who did cats' rescue, big time, and she felt the same. Afew years ago I was involved in rescuing a feral colony of cats in this street - or should I say they, and their kittens, largely moved in with me, and during the delicate operation of rehoming the kittens from under the nose of their (nominal) owner (he couldn't look after himself, never mind the cats, poor chap; a short while later he took off for good) I lost my temper and told the RSPCA I seemed to be doing their job for them. They'd been after the guy for years, it seemed.

However, the last time I had to contact them was about a rabbit abandoned by a neighbour (under tragic circumstances) and the RSPCA came straight out and took him, because we'd all been looking after him and he was in good condition - and rehomable.

But no, I wouldn't support the RSPCA. I once heard them described as the 'reluctant' society. I think they only act if it makes them look good - going by my experience of them I'm dubious about their basic concern for animals. (I will welcome anyone saying that they've found that is not the case - but I can only go by my own experience.)

Sorry about rant but ....

Well handled, but I don't think I'd risk letting them in, they're so ill-informed they may think you're doing something wrong when you're not.

very true.........but often they're 'always right'

i have absolutely NO support for the RSPCA, i saw the dog in this article www.selby.gov.uk/news_detail.asp?menuid=2&id=1070 first hand the day after Bill our local dog warden found him, the RSPCA REFUSED to help this poor dog that could barely stand up for the pictures to be taken............because there wasn't an ownder to prosecute!

so i'd urge anyone thinking of donating to the RSPCA to consider what they'll actually be spending your donation on, and the ansxwer is probably over-paid lawyers rather than helping sick, abandoned animals.
