Well, you seem to have done all the right things - you didn't handle him for a week or disturb him. And if he wasn't very lively, you just thought he was settling in. You weren't to know. A good shop should exchange him.

Just one tip, when you get your replacement, don't give much water - terrapine papermachius goes all soggy and shapeless if allowed to bathe. Small bowl of drinking water only!

Right, been going into my shell for a bit and doing a lot of googling and intellectual research, and I think I can safely say that it's quite a rare species - terrapine papermachius sullysteveii, otherwise known as Sullysteve's redlegged hanging basket terrapin.

Hi, I got tied up with a feeding drama and then my laptop had a hissy fit, but I have been giving a lot of thought to your greenback turtle.

For a start, it's a she. The females are lager.

And her name is ... Stella Tortoise!
