Does it annoy anyone else when you're reading say, a news story, or something else factual and it starts going on about poisonous snakes? News sites are the worst, they're meant to be giving people facts but instead they're using incorrect terminology!  I find myself raging at them in my own head. I will not stand for this!  |

I always wondered what they were called! Those bugs are awesome little guys I love picking them up and then touching them and them going "ping" and no-where to be found!

I always did wonder about cuckoo spit... I'm guessing its a bug that does it? Either way it's dirty lol
Yeah, you may have noticed, while sitting outside in summer, a funny little brown insect rather like a frog (hence the name froghopper) that lands on you and springs off (there are no apparent wings). The 'cuckoo spit' is caused by the larva of this beastie - the larva looks very similar, but is soft and pale; when it hatches out it sucks leaves and grass and uses the sap to exude a sticky froth to protect itself from predators and hot sun. Next time you see some cuckoo spit, take some on your finger and you will probably see the little insect cocooned inside it. It can be a pest in gardens.
(As you may have noticed, I'm fascinated with creepy crawlies. When I was married it was always me who used to get the job of removing the spider from the bath. And I talked to it, too ...) |

I actually wrote to the sun newspaper, telling them that they were totally wrong and shouldnt be printing something that is factually incorrect.
I never got a reply from them, so i guess that they will be printing rubbish like normal!
I think it was to do with the False Water cobra article with Nigel 'numpty' Marvin.

Maybe venom is only naturally produced by animals or maybe to be envenomated rather than poisoned it has to come from an animal which naturally creates and secretes the venom.

Poison dart frogs are so named because the local tribes use their poison to tip their blowdarts not cos they shoot poison as my little cousin believes |

Hrrm this is what I am confused about Danny. But you get poison darts or are these darts and you can get blood poison and ink poisoning but none of those terms it doesn't have to be ingested or even make its way through broken skin. Good old google does seem to suggest what you said Danny but I wonder why the terms only apply to animals and not objects. |

I think a poison has to be ingested, whereas venom is injected.
So like Kehhlyr said before if you have somebody who has been bitten by a venemous snake they have been envenomated, if somebody then tries to suck the venom out of the wound they could be poisoned.
Is that correct, or am i completely wrong? |

The newspaper always hype up stuff, if they didn't hype it up it wouldn't sell. Because of this sadly, no-one will ever know the true story. There have seen severak cases where it was hyped up so much that it the writers have had a good slap on the wrist although, these were non snake related.
I can rember that woman who found a corn under a bin or something and the newpspare had hyped it all up and then took a stupid picture of her even stupier face looking in the bin |

It's not bad or gruesome, the snake in question is still happy and live and kicking.
