Some of you might know about the problems I've had with my first corn snake Cherry and her eye from other posts i have made.
I recently went back to the shop a bought her at to make a complaint about the service i received when she first got ill (there response at the time was simply "not my problem") and the fact that she was sold to me as an Okeetee, and now i'm pretty sure she is just a Wild type Carolina.

I went in, and not only did they completely dismiss the problems i have had saying, i quote "you know Its livestock, you bought her. its your problem". They told me that every snake in there shop comes from the same two parent snakes (they had around 12 different types of hatching on sale), and that Cherry was in fact a reverse Okeetee and that i was wrong!!

i'm sorry but that snake is not a reverse okeetee! When i told them that she definitely wasn't that bread, they just shrugged and said "well thats what she is"

I am so **** off at them! but i don't think there is anything i can do. which just makes me angrier
i would never change her for another snake, but still !

sorry little rant there haha. Anyone else had problems with idiot pet shop staff?

Stotty was saying that his boss is doing a diploma in animal care shouldnt this be standard for any one wanting a pet shop licence if they going to sell reps to show they do know about the care and wellfare of these animals.

Most rep shops the same all they bothered about is the pound signs. It works out cheaper to get a viv on line than rep shop they are to expensive as others have said

eeji Posted - 16/08/2010 : 18:34:31
our local rep shop is total pants :(

Livestock is always low with nothing really 'different' to usual pet shop species, and god help you if you need crickets - theres never any in, and if there are the boxes are all half dead.

The woman behind the counter is totally useless and doesn't have a clue about anything because she 'only works there, it's my daughters shop' but the good thing is she can't add up very well so you can usually come away with a few free mice (only ever used in emergency - over a quid for a medium mouse!!!!!!)

You are right though, its just a normal carolina, not an okeetee, and certainly not a reverse!
Firstly, if the snake is showing genetic defects, then its highly likely they are inbreeding, several generations.
Secondly, the rspca will look into it, but they cannot do anything until its proven they are neglegent.
Thirdly, involve the council, they are the ones who issue petshop licences, and ultimately the ones who can take it away, and they will investigate, especially if you can get a few people who have had issues with them.
Going to the papers, even just the local one will give them something to think about, and it will also force the rspca and council to atleast investigate.
The trading standards is a good one, if I was you, I would go back, ask them for help, when they say no, just drop trading standards and the council into the convo, they will either become the most helpful people on earth, or get the hump and bar you, which to be honest, is a win win situation!
Don't let it lie though, people need to stand up against people who don't follow simple rules.

It wouldn't be the first shop to be closed down for the same reasons!

If i were you i would compose one email and send it to everyone...trading standards, RSPCA, local paper, national paper....etc etc. You have a beautiful snake and if you are anything like me you will want revenge on the selfish, thoughtless b******s who cant be bothered to care. It may come to nothing but it will make you feel better. Im lucky...my local snake guy is a gem.

The eye was a genetic defect, so it wasn't there folt. However I rang up with the hope of getting some advice on what to do, or atleast the name of a vet, literally all the guy said was "not my problem" and hung up on me. And to make it worce i think it was the manager i spoke to!
i really want to report them, but don't have a clue of how to do it haha. but i'm looking in to it :P

That is bad :/ I don't think the RSPCA or anyone else would be bothered to be honest about the pet shop, the only thing you can do is tell everyone you know that the shop sucks ****. If they have a facebook page, even better :p

good thought, i'll go check there now haha.
thankfully the reptile place closer to where i live put my trust back in to shop keepers, as the guy there has been more then happy to help me out end even taught me how to hold a snakes head, letting me practice with the ones they have in the shop. So there are a few good places out there.

Think they've just lost a sale. I hate pet shops that don't care about what they sell.

The shop has recenty got in Albino Pigme Hedgehogs, There very cute, but being kept infront of all there snakes!! haha i feel sorry for the snakes being constantly tempted with food.
There animals are ok, they are healthy and they look after them well. Its there customer service, manners and knowledge that stink, which i guess is better then miss treating the animals.

It still gets me how every single petshop i go to houses their leopard geckos on sand!
I bought a little albino female leo once and she has to go the vets for an eye infection because she was housed on sand in the shop.
- she was also 6 months old and gravid

Just out of interest, where abouts in warrington is it? im from warrington myself. :)

well hello
as far as my 'awesome' geography skills take me... its near warrington hospital
other than that i havent a clue!

Reverse Okeettes are selectively bred amels to have high white borders...

I know they give bad advised...my local shop has a normal labelled as a caramel. They asked my opinion and I told them what I thought, I hope they have changed it.

my advice would be to keep on with your snake, and maybe involve trading standards

Or alternatively, create mary hell and tell them your'e not going to shop there again if you dont get re-embossed.

I'm lucky, in one shop the animmals are quality, well looked after, but their equipment is nice but wayy to overpriced and the advice isn't solid.

The other shop I use is too small, with about 8 lizards and 4 snakes in the back, it's more of a domestic pet shop, but its fairly priced, ok there isn't a huge range but the bare bones for a set up is there and the snakes get the attention and care they need but there isn't anything exuberent there.
